Queen Elizabeth II passes aged 96

End of an era for all of us here. We all used to sing God Save the Queen at school assembly when it was our national anthem. I only saw her once probably was the last time she visited Perth about 20 years ago up in Kings Park.

It must have broken her heart the way things panned out with Randy Andy and Fergy, Charlie and Princess Diana, then her tragic death and in more recent times Prince Andrew’s massive bail out for his alleged shenanigans and the massive family split with Prince Harry and his misses.

Who takes the reigns, Charlie or does he pass the batton to William or Kate? Lizzy is a tough act to follow. Will this trigger a referendum on severing ties with the Commonwealth and become a republic?

King Charles the Third is the new head of the monarchy at age 73 with William the new heir to the throne at age 40.

Life as an Elizabethan ends and as a Carolean begins. Hail to the King.

Very sad day, she showed the world what duty and grace was all about, a steadying influence over so many years.
As you said, an impossible act to follow. I just hope the republicans can hold off any talk of severing ties for a decent amount of time and show some respect for such a great woman.

Yes a sad day for many. The queen is the only monarch known to a lot of people. The royal family rushed to Balmoral yesterday and apparently the queen died sometime in the afternoon. King Charles already been appointed apparently.
Does this mean more instabilities in Australia? One would hope not as there currently too many problems within this country!

I suppose it shouldn’t have been big surprise as she was ill, but it shocked me when I read it this morning. She’s been there pretty well all my life and just think she’ll be there forever. Rest In Peace your majesty.

That idiot Brandt has already bought up the republic issue. Elbows shut him down for the moment.

Back in the old dart they are beginning to cancel a lot of sports like cricket, golf, rugby and football. One would hope that Gill does the same here with the AFL and WAFL finals this weekend.

Out of respect for her majesty the Queen I’ll refrain from what I really want to say about that type.

Very statesman like of you DD but I’m can’t be.
Brandt and the other dog fitzsimons should be given the bin laden and be taken for a one way flight to the back of Rottsnest wearing cement boots.

A big thankyou to Queen Elizabeth II..
A life and reign that bought stability around the Commonwealth and gave us a wonderful democracy.
Over the next 10 days we will remember the wonderful 70 year reign. As we welcome our new King Charles the III.

good posts, I am a little sad, although we expected it at some time. WA would have kept ‘God Save the Queen’, but was out voted by the east. A great Queen whom will be much missed. Thanks for putting up the topic, ‘DD’, it is much appreciated. ‘Long live the King’, as the oath goes

a 70 year reign as Queen is just remarkable and she does deserve quite a bit of reward for that and the manner she did it in
will be a huge funeral up in GB and it’ll stop the country like no time before too
going to be a difficult act to follow that’s for sure
Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth

Late Edit - going to be bit of change in our coins and banknote coming up now

I heard them say this morning they are canceling sitting in parliament today and the next two weeks. Why? They should have ALL been sitting in parliament today for the sole purpose of honouring the passing of the Queen, nothing more but nothing less. An opportunity missed. A rare opportunity to come together as one by our political leaders.

No matter what you think of the monarchy and its relevance to Australia, you have to admire the lady for her lifelong devotion to her duty and the joy she bought to so many people. RIP

Yes exactly my thoughts upon hearing the news this morning. I wonder if the rest of us could also not attend work duties for the next two weeks in respect for the queen!!??
Politicians should be leading by example and sadly they are found wanting too frequently.

Unbelievable - Even given her age , I still can’t quite believe it, has been a constant presence for decades in my life. I am still in a bit of shock, she was working right up until literally the last day, with the new PM appointment, didn’t look well at all and then it just ended so quick.

Not sure if games should be played today but anyway I see the AFL have put some good tributes up on Social Media, nothing from WAFL yet.

An incredible life of service RIP.

Vivat Rex.

Wow, just heard God Save the Queen after a minute silence at the G with images of a young and older Elizabeth up on the big screen. It gave me goose bumps. Hopefully they do that before all sporting matches this weekend including the WAFL finals.

It gets you like that doesn’t it? I must admit, I had a shaky voice and a brimming tear when I told the missus this morning. I was 1 year old when she took the throne.

Sorry but she lost my respect when saving that pedo andys disgusting arse not to mention knighting that silver fox filthy jimmy s carnt, the king of pedos. Imagine abusing 5 year olds and even 75 year olds. Fkn hate predators especially pedos. I’d happily pull the trigger on the lot of them. Fkn scum, they will never change and there is far too many of them. But hey why would I care it doesn’t affect me it’s not one of my kids that was abused!

DG, while I might agree with your sentiments, I’m not sure ER had any clue about Saville, very few did, he hid is so well with his massive charity work, which is what he got the gongs for, which does not excuse his disgusting behaviour and crimes against children 1 iota. But maybe it’s a bit too soon to get stuck into her.

Maybe wait till the inevitable wave of republican histeria develops along with the woe is me indigenous lobby having a whinge about stuff that happened well before you or I were around. Given we have a left wing socialist PM it’s odds on he will call for another ref on the republic in this term.
