Qualifying Final Swans v Peel

Hopefully Claremont boot them out of contention next week so they don’t get a chance to take advantage of this decision

Geez if Clarke doesn’t get off and Swans lose this week it could get very hostile at Bassendean if Swans are to come up against Peel once again.

Just on the suspension, the WAFL need to make the vision they have available to the public so everyone can make judgement. The length of the penalty makes it near on impossible for Clarke to have any further impact on the season because getting it down to 2 would still have him missing if Swans were to win this weekend. Getting it from 4 to 1 would be best case but the defense would have to challenge the legitimacy of the strike or the severity of the penalty, it can’t be both.

If Clarke did indeed strike Grey to the jaw then that is poor form and I’m not condoning the act but the fact that Grey was not injured and played out the game is evidence that in this case and on precedence set that the penalty is extreme. 2 down to 1 with an early plea would’ve been the appropriate outcome and one which Swans would’ve likely accepted meaning Clarke could play in the pre lim and or the GF.

The tribunal knew exactly what they were doing here and Swans have very little room to move for a positive outcome.

It smacks of incompetence as the tribunal has long been notorious for handing out lighter penalties in recent times and even more so to the AFL aligned teams. And even as recently as last week we are all well aware that the Perth player who knocked out Edwards only got 3 down to 2.

he’s been done for retaliating and it looks like it will be difficult for counsel to argue
and especially so because it is the WAFC’s illegitimate sprog you are dealing with

SD need to tackle this head on. They owe it to Clarkey who gives his all for the club.
With no Turner and Clarke - we cant win another final - its simple..
Cmon Swannies - take the WAFL on - In the AFL it would be a fine as Grey played on unimpeded.
What about Greys hit on Turner - 2 sets of rules for the Peel boys.
Go hard or go home - you owe it to the supporters

The WAFL tribunal is like a secret society. Unlike the AFL tribunal they seem to have no accountability for their decisions and dont publish reasons for decisions or release footage of what led them to their rulings, so basically they can do what they like, so we have a situation where a Perth player who knocked out Tom Edwards, thus putting him out for 21 days got a lesser penalty than Clarke who allegedly hit a player who was so affected that he played out the game unimpeded and will no doubt front up for Peel this week.

I think Swans will try and appeal the ruling on the basis of its severity but I think their chances of success are pretty slim. I hope that the players will respond to this in a way that will respect the contribution that AIden has made to the club over the years and unfortunately this incident may have cost him a chance to be a premiership player.
It is a chance for players such as Hewitt, Cartwright and Chipper who have been in and out of the team this year to make their mark and establish themselves as permanent league players.
I agree the absence of Clarke, Turner and Edwards makes this weeks game at Leederville a difficult one to win, I would be confident we could win a Preliminary final at home with the quality of players we still have. Edwards should also be back for this game.

Not Chipper for mine, he’s had plenty of chances to impact this season and he just doesn’t cut it. Cartwright is the player to unleash! I remember him being a standout up fwd in the colts GF a few years back and could provide some genuine X factor if given opportunity to unleash. McGlaughlin will likely have to play some more midfield minutes so Cartwright could be that dangerous fwd option but also a wing rotation.

Now they have to replace 2 so you would say Cartwright is a definite to play that small forward role with Mclauglin running through the midfield as you said. Who will be the other player in though? They may go with Chipper or other choices could be Caporn as a utility, Hilton, Ehlers, Roche, Fitzgerald or Jak Watson depending on match ups or what roles the coaches want within the side.

Lets not sugar coat this, the loss of both Turner and Clarke is probably a fatal blow to our premiership chances, they add so much to the team and we just don’t have the depth to cover these two crucial players. I think they will be comfortably beaten by East Perth on Saturday. I am more optimistic about a preliminary final at Bassendean where Tom Edwards should be back. Turners status is still unknown but even minor knee injuries can take up to 3 or 4 weeks to get right

I watched the game on AFL live stream Mike and must say, Nik Rokahr is some player. Not sure why he hasn’t spent an extended period at the next level.

Him and his mate Chalcraft have been a major reason why Swans have got into the finals this year. I seem to remember that Rokahr nominated for the mid season draft this year but wasn’t selected. The local AFL teams could do a lot worse than having a look at him as I reckon he could be a bit of a Nick Martin

At 29 he’s probably missed his chance whereas Marto was only 21 so worth the risk.

Oh right I thought he was only in his mid 20s

Cartwright and Hilton would be my 2 ins, assuming everyone else pulled up ok, as they are also versatile and have plenty of upside!

Keep challenging the young guys to step up! Erceg hasn’t played enough footy and he can’t help us win it any more than the back 6 did last week and Chipper has peaked!

I want to see the confident and cocky Cartwright of his colts years be unleashed up fwd and with the backing to take the game on!

Hilton is very comfortable within the back 6 and the team.

Its a no brainer really.

Run em and stun em.
