What a fantastic front running performance by 6 yr old mare Pride of Jenni in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday. Think all the other jockeys eithet fell asleep in the saddle or expected POJ to fall off a cliff entering the straight. Talk about a sustained effort of speed endurance…fantastic to watch.
I’d say there’s a few jockeys with sore arses Freezin. If she is that good then take her overseas and see how she fares. She blasted about 6 lengths clear against Amelia’s Jewel in her first run over east last year and AJ run her down.
Hopefully AJ gets a decent barrier in the Quokka and shows her class.
DD, Winx never went overseas to race, and she is probably up there as Australia’s best ever racehorse. Obviously POJ ain’t no Winx, but her effort in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes was something to behold.
I hope Amelia’s Jewel has a good return to racing, as she is a beauty as well.
Love seeing this, run away leaders who put 10 lengths or more on the other runners, rated expertly in front by their jockey and still manage to hold on and win.
It doesnt happen enough unfortunately.
She did the same in the spring at Flemington as well in either the Champions Mile or Empire Rose from memory.
I remember a horse called Tudor Lee doing similar back in the 1980s at Ascot a few times, cant remember if it was Bernie Ryan, Danny Miller or another jockey who employed those same dashing front running tactics on him!?
BH, do you remember Rocket Racer’s victory in the Perth Cup…poor thing kept on running from memory.

I certainly do Freeze, watched it live on the TV.
It was a distressing, sad day and era in racing.
His owner L.Connell made a fortune on the race, the horse was never swabbed as the vets had to act to save RR.
Although he did recover, and raced once or twice again, he was never the same and he passed away not that much longer after.
Connell also won the first ever $1million race around the same time with a horse called Fair Sir.
He was also implicated in the Strike Softly/D.Hobby case from the same era.
Vo Rogue.
Amelia’s Jewel got another wide barrier in the Quokka, barrier 12. Her nemesis Overpass drew gate 6.
In my 40 odd years of punting,I would say P.O.J. at 6 years old and rising 7 in the spring,is one of the most improved horses I have ever seen.I always considered her to be a bit of a speedy squib, which aligns with her previous record of 3 wins from her first 23 starts, but since last spring she’s won 4 from her last 6 in Group 1 company and suddenly become the latest “Vo Rogue”.and what about the win of her stablemate Circles of Fire in the Sydney cup, where it was 3 deep the journey,no cover of a hot speed and wins going away, and Ciaron Maher horses seem to be exhibiting a lot of “freakish”stamina lately, very reminiscent of the Greg Harper trained horses in Perth 20 odd years ago.
