Be interesting to see how other Leagues around Australia incorporated the points system.
Say; South West, Coastal and others.

Clubs without colts are deep trouble - 30 points doesn’t allow much leeway for recruitment at all! 18 players from the previous season leaving 12 to recruit with? Tough times ahead…
Persuading Clubs to work more closely with local junior Clubs was one of the aims of the points system - that is, I believe, the best way of ensuring your Club has a colts team.
I agree - those without one will struggle.
Under any the proposed points system, the number of points each Club gets annually is likely to increase over time - this may help soften the blow, but the days of ‘cherry picking’ a team out of other Clubs, AFL and WAFL are at an end.
Clubs need to be (and always should have been) developing their own local players.
I have little sympathy for those who haven’t been doing so.
Clubs without colts are going to find it tough in 2019 but all clubs are going to struggle in 2020 and beyond unless there is a significant increase in the Points Cap. Our former President was trying explain it the other day but I only heard half the conversation. Something to do with loyalty points kicking in after 2 seasons and that will prevent clubs who max out the 30 point cap in 2019 not being able to recruit anyone in 2020 and then only 1 or 2 players in 2021 and beyond if the 30 point cap is maintained.
He was adamant that this model failed to meet its objectives controlling player payments as the players currently paid in the WAAFL are now 1 point and not impacted by the 30 point cap and that the players least likely to be paid are the ones most impacted by attracting 2-3 points when they shouldn’t be valued more than 1 point.
Well done to all OzFooty folk as you have managed to drag MrM out of summer hibernation, where he has been informed of this topic and after reading has become so incensed with the vitriol being written that is taking away from the real point of the new points system.
People are talking about recruiting and how they are going to challenge, for this and that. MrM is sure if you go read your clubs constitution and ethos there would be nothing about winning games of football. It is to provide a service to the community in regards to offering a place where people can play and an opportunity for people from all walks of life to enjoy a kick with friends.
Rewards your efforts to grow in the community and help local footballers continue on their football pathway.
Less emphasis on winning and more on assisting the community

Ahh Mr M.. the voice of reason.
Summed it up perfectly
LOYALTY POINTS REDUCTION
a) A registered player, who is categorised at more than 1 point and whilst remaining at his WAAFL club, may commence reducing his points value by 1 point after completing his second ‘Season of Service’ till he reaches 1 point.
A ‘Season of Service’ means 5 or more WAAFL matches played per season with his respective WAAFL club. These seasons do not have to be consecutive seasons nor all matches in the one grade for his WAAFL club. However, if this player transfers to another club, all loyalty points applied will be forfeited and the player subject to the highest level of football he has played in any of the current or previous three seasons. A ‘Season of Service’ is not applicable to Type 2 Local Interchange Permit players. Type 2 Local Interchange Permit players are not registered WAAFL players. These players are registered with a non-WAAFL club in another competition but allowed to play in the WAAFL under permit arrangements.
Example 1:
1st season: 4 point player, plays 5+ matches
2nd season: 4 point player, plays 5+ matches
3rd season: Reduce to a 3 point player, plays 5+ matches
4th season: Reduce to a 2 point player, plays 5+ matches
5th season: Reduce to a 1 point player
Example 2:
1st season: 4 point player, plays 5+ matches
2nd season: 4 point player, plays only 2 matches
3rd season: 4 point player, plays 5+ matches
4th season: Reduce to a 3 point player, plays 5+ matches
5th season: Reduce to a 2 point player, does not play
6th season: 2 point player, plays 5+ matches
7th season: 1 point player
b) Before the commencement of each season, each club is to review and where applicable, apply a 1 point reduction to those players in accordance with each ‘Seasons of Service’.

Obviously very Community minded up at Wanneroo Mr M…your supporters are well known for embracing the ethos that it doesn’t matter if you win or lose as long as you enjoy playing the game! I’ve always enjoyed the constructive criticism on offer from your fans particularly the group behind the goals who are delightful community minded young men. Looking forward to Wanneroos proposal in the next few seasons to stop recording the score and premiership ladder with free buckets of chips available to all participants (no one really wants a partipatiin ribbon)
How will Wanneroos community philosophy work under the new Points System though when retiring West Perth players can’t be accommodated within the cap or West Perth Reserves players who haven’t got a game can’t fit into the cap when they return on permit?
Mr M,
Insightful as always.
However it needs to be remembered if winning was not important we would not keep score.
That said clubs are duty bound to provide opportunities and the environment you mentioned.
Along with (while trying to win) playing within both the rules and spirit of the game , the WAAFL is charged with providing a competion that is fair and equitable that allows all clubs the same opportunity to grow and develop.
The WAAFL is duty bound to engage and listern to its participating clubs so as to accomplish and establish a level playjng field for all.
Thus to completely ignore the overwhelming majority of its member clubs on the points option desired …well questions should, no in fact NEED to be asked!
There should be no line in the sand if points for service were to apply for each year of service immediately, that is from the commencement of the second year at the respective club.
Example 1: WAFL PLayer
1st season: 4 point player, plays 5+ matches
2nd season: Reduce to a 3 point player, plays 5+ matches
3rd season: Reduce to a 2 point player, plays 5+ matches
4th season: Reduce to a 1 point player, plays 5+ matches
Example 2: AFL Player
1st season: 5 point player, plays 5+ matches
2nd season: Reduce to 4 point player, plays 5+ matches
3rd season: Reduce to a 3 point player, plays 5+ matches
4th season: Reduce to a 2 point player, plays 5+ matches
5th season: Reduce to a 1 point player
The other comparable major amateur competition to the WAAFL is in Victoria (VAFL) who allocate a 47 point cap. Given the VAFL has been in place for three years Is there any reason we do not use their allocation as the basis for our first season?
I can see no basis to limiting the cap to 30 points. A fair starting point would be 47 points providing we make it retrospective for all non local players.
WAAFL have announce a Special General Meeting for Wednesday 14 November (Post Season Workshop postponed to 21 November) at East Perth Function Centre to discuss which points system will be implemented.
All Clubs now have the chance to have their say.
Ok,
Had a quick opportunity to have a look at recent circular from WAAFL management regarding meeting on 21st Nov.
Dare say… management ‘explanation’ for Option A decision seems to be lacking validity in many areas.
As i read it (and i profess will check out in more detail tomorrow) NO club what so ever that responded to feedback actually supported Option A?
Surely I have miss read that info?
You read the circular correctly Stinker.
No surprise that the clubs have called a special general meeting as a result of the Board endorsed the alternate model.
Reading through it, the GM wanted the Board to select Model A and got his way.
Hopefully an amicable resolution for most club’s can be met.
UHT,
I think for the development and growth of community football that is what we all wish.
However as i read circular…WAAFL management is stating “Their idea” of a level and fair ‘playing field’ is the fact we hae grades?
I hear option A has been given the boot and the clubs have voted for option B
48 - 11 huge result in favour of b.
Thanks for the update UTG.
Well done to all those who spoke up and didn’t just accept a poor decision by people who are in it for themselves.
For anybody who was in attendance can you confirm with respect to each of the following:
(1) Was there any adjustment to the points allocation per team
(2) Is the points allocation the same for each grade
(3) Does the one (1) point credit for each year of service kick in at the start of the second year now?
I never quite understood why clubs couldn’t apply the points credit for each year of service in the original proposal until the start of the 3rd year? It seems an unnecessary administrative burden to apply it in that manner.
There were no discussions last night about the points allocation for Option B, but my guess would be that WAAFL have already done the modelling. They are meeting on Saturday and, again, my guess only. I would expect to see a discussion paper/request for feedback come out shortly. I hope that this time, that more than 5 Clubs provide feedback.
Points are allocated to league teams only in all grades from A down to C4. I have never heard a suggestion that different grades be treated differently. Should such a proposal be made, I would think it would be howled down.
There was no discussion about when loyalty points would cut in.
In accordance with the Constitution (which would be the same in most Clubs) the SGM last night only discussed the motions put.
