Good thread, Tiger. It is always interesting to find out where our moving players have come from or gone to in regards to the Amateurs

I wonder if Jye Bolton will play ammo’s or country?..surely the fella could command a couple of K per game playing country footy? Or will an A grade ammo club be more convenient? What ammo club is in the Cl area?

Lots of good PFL clubs in the Claremont Zone.
A Grade - Uni, Scarbs and North Beach
B Grade - West Coast, Collegians,
C1 - Wembley & Mosman Park

Not long ago,the Magpies must have challenged for an A Grade Flag.

They’ve really hit the skids, sliding back to C1.

:face_with_crossed_out_eyes:

Yep Wembley we’re in A Grade in 2024 and dropped 2 grades in 2 seasons.

They haven’t been a force in A Grade since 2006 & 2007 though

Ok,thanks.

He will get $$$ in PFL, you’re silly if you think that no one is being paid in the PFL! Especially A,B,C1 grades… :joy:

Never said they wouldn’t, just assumed Country footy would be less scrutinized monetary wise, compared to Ammo footy, where the name in itself, says it all…Amateur Footy, would suggest Bolton would be drawn to the country leagues the most financially.

Has the Ammos ever been amateur? There’s been inducements around as long I can remember across nearly all senior grades. Jobs, vouchers, cash. I was told one club’s reverse raffle was won by their League B&F winner 3 years in a row…what’s the chances?

The slow addition of several Sunday League clubs, before the whole Sunday League collapsed and the remaining clubs joined the Ammos ramped things up, with most of these clubs still offering the same Sunday league incentives.

try down to C5

I am not sure you can blame the old Sunday League Clubs for ramping $$$ up.
Same old story always has been, they look after the privileged clubs and go after the low hanging fruit.

Claremont had to ban an ex-Sunday League club official from our changerooms after he continually tried to offer big money to players to go play Ammos. I know the same club got found guilty of player payments and pretty sure they got relegated from B grade. Long way from Claremont oval to the south eastern suburb, with plenty of other Ammo clubs in between. The incentives to take the drive were far better than most WAFL League players were getting.

It would be too easy for old Sunday League folk to say the T word.

At least from the 90’s and Noughties.

So perhaps someone else,…..

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I have no doubt the old SFL clubs were doing exactly what the WAAFL clubs were doing at the time when they entered the competition. I think you summed it up best though with your “Long way from Claremont oval to the south eastern suburb” line. Those clubs and those associated never wanted to travel that far. People took in personally that a Maddington or a Kelmscott were in A grade and did what they could to get them out. They did what every club were doing back then and are still doing in 2026.

I would hope that Baldivis have learnt the lessons of many clubs before them coming into A Grade and how to stay there.

The lack of recruitment looks a concern

The hard part Boothead about coming up a grade is that you are usually maxed out on points from the previous year leaving very little to go out and recruit a 3,4 or 5 pointer (established wafl/afl player) players unless your last years premiers (leave it to you to work out what grade)who had 3 & 4 point players playing Ressies obviously for the love of the club!

It’s a big step up from B Grade to A Grade, most years 1 of the 2 teams promoted get relegated straight away.

Baldivas have been a consistent Top 5 team in B & B Reserves for a number of years so that shows they might have the depth to be competitive.

If you’re at maximum points the previous season, then with the loyalty points deductions you could have between 4 and 16 points available for the current season…

Sneaky theres 3rd Grade teams with 3 point players running around so not unusual to see 3 and 4 point players in the Reserves. Most of the A Grade premiers for the last few years have.

Jump to A is too big TT and if you don’t recruit you’ll be straight back down.

You are correct about the points. You pick up a point every year until you reach 1 so every team gets a new set of points to try and find another 5 pointer to bring in.

I know NB had to play a gun in the reserves as couldn’t fit him in to the league team … don’t see what the issue is with that personally. One club a few years ago played most weeks with 21 due to being over the cap. That was C grade.

The problem with it viper was what was told to the 5 pointer. Fullgrab and Scurria were recruited and I’ve heard from a close source that the coaches and a former wafl captain told the 2 players there was no way they’d miss a finals game due to points after they signed another 5 pointer mid way through the season. Hard to want to stay and play for a club that does this to their players especially since one was the only state player selected from NB
