Geez I bet Gus Seebeck , Mick Rea , even the late Chris Stasinowsky , Neil Fotheringhame , John McGuire etc would be miffed smoke
Yep, Mick Rea was a great recruit. Last Perth player to kick a lazy 100 goals in a season. Perhaps he could have got the gig in place of Cooper.
Gus Seebeck won a Sandover but jumped ship back to Souths the next year.
John McGuire played most of his games at EP. He didn’t play many for Perth.
Stasa was good at his mecurial best.
Fothers was a good player also but IMO hard to fit into my top 10.
Who would you have left out of my original list.
I thought Fotheringhame started at Perth before moving to West Perth & then Subi??
Ross Fitzgerald & Drew Cornelious were good players for Perth from my mob.
Mark Washfold, John Gavranich from WP were good
Lindsay Kanther would have been a good recruit from Claremont if he didnt do his knee early on but also Peter O’Connoll, Kevin Worthington & the Farmer boys were handy from Tigerland!

No Beas - Neil Fotheringhame was from West Perth
Good question Smoke - maybe I’m just topping it up to the best dozen or so
Edit: I just remembered the other guy from Richmond - Darryl Freame

No Southerner
Neil Fotheringhame’s career-
P- 1975-79
WP- 1980-83
S- 1984-85
well there ya go … memory is a funny thing … I stand corrected Beas cheers
BH, I think that Lindsay Kanther’s knees were f**k*d before he came to Perth and he did not play any games for us.
You are right. John Gavranich and Drew Cornelius were great stalwarts for PFC. Perhaps I should have started this thread as the Best 20 Recruits. If I made it over 50 years I would have had to include Mal Atwell.
Yes, Fothers started at Perth before going to WP and S.
A couple of other recruits who did well for us were Ross Prunster (ex WP) and Stephen Mount (ex Richmond and SF)
The Farmer boys were very handy. Would Mal Brown, David Glascott, Wayne Blackwell, Tom Mullooly and Alan Joyce have qualified as recruits???
Would Mal Brown, David Glascott, Wayne Blackwell, Tom Mullooly and Alan Joyce have qualified as recruits???
Only if you were looking for candidates for the worst recruits. Alan Joyce and Tom Mullooly would be 1 and 2 on that list.
Adrian Barich wasn’t a bad recruit worthy of top 20.
Barry Kimberley played at swans did he ever line up for Perth or was he from Perth or have I just stuffed up and had a WAFLwobble ???

Started with Perth. Ex Queens Park boy. I thought he went to East Perth ???
surely Brian Peake must be up there…Sandover Medallist, All Australian, multiple Premiership player…don’t think Perth have had many of those in the past 30 odd years …Peter Stennett…Kirk Herbele, Michael Saunders…all quality players who sweated red and black for the PFC cause in the last 10 - 15 yrs…
In all honesty Mick Rea was Perths number one recruit in my eyes…big fella who tried his guts out for the club, always double teamed, yet still kicked a shed load of goals, even though the delivery was crap at times!
I agree Freezin. Big “Stinger” probably was one of our best recruits. In my original post my footnote was E & OE and my big error was to leave Mick out.
Bomber Peake didn’t play a lot of games for us at the very end of his distinguished career. He came over to us to knotch up his 400th game.
Michael Saunders was a very serviceable player for us and a role model for younger players. He has since continued to serve the club in several coaching roles.
Always used to loved Rea’s falling marks in the goal square…used to think 'how does that fat b’stard do it’…good character at the time…tongue in cheek re: Bomber and the EF boys…reckon EF have scored more quality recruits from the PFC than the other way round over the past few decades…
I have to agree with you again Freezin - frightening stuff, eh?
IMHO,Gibelini was the best recruit we got from EF. We gave EF “Boondy” Allard, and the Spalding brothers. Can’t recall off hand any others except a tall ruckman whose name escapes me ATM.
Stinger could always use his weight to great advantage. His timing was perfect and he would appear to be falling but would always be at the fall of the ball.
Another bad omission of mine was Dean Herbert (ex Richmond?) a premiership player for us in 1976.
Bomber should have been a Perth player. Played all his junior football at Manning JFC with the likes of Wiley and Spencer but went to EF under father and son rule. Spencer of course went to EP likewise.
Tall lanky PREMIERSHIP player Ian Newman!

Surely you cant compare the quality of- Robbie Hooker, Roger Kerr, Todd Jenkins, Matt Congleton, Conrad Chambers, Michael Saunders, Geoff Wilson, Matt Kennewell, Paul Lenaghan, Chris Maguire, Julian Burgess, Nathan Elari, Darren Capewell, Brian Peake (aged 38) & Bruce Tschirpig that P have snaffled off EF with the likes of- Earl Spalding, Scott Spalding, Steven Lally, Ian Newman, Glen Moir, Jeff Moore, Wayne Allard, Bryce Forman, Guy Baxter, Shane Stiles, Murray Couper et al freeze!!
others from Swans to Perth - Fruity Renfree, Mick Hastie, Greg Frost.
pretty sure Barry Kimberley was swapped for Ross Fitzgerald after the 82 flag, little Barney Rubble then went on to win 2 flags and a Simpson in one of those GF’s…Fitzy did come back to Swans at the end of his career..
Renfree played in a flag in 84 and then went to Perth not long after..

Fruity Renfree went to P in 1990 MO thus meaning he missed a second flag with the Mighty Black Ducks ..tho he broke his leg in 89 and probably never played his best footy there after!
