Yes, Q had 30 touches, 11 marks and 4 goals. He would have to be in the conversation after that. It may depend on conditions - rain is forecast next weekend, so we wouldn’t look at him then. Maybe I’m stuck with the sort of footy I grew up with, but I like 2 tall backs and 2 tall key forwards, so that might be Q and Luers forward and Scoble and JPC back (with some rucking) until Johnston, JGM and/or Clarke are available. We could look at Jacques in the ruck and Schlensog forward, but I don’t think that would be wise given how good Schlensog has been since Edwards went down.
Fun fact: two more wins and it will be the first time since 1997 that we have won more games than we lost. We had 9 wins, 9 losses in 2002, which is also the only time since 97 that we have had a % over 100.
It was a Big Beautiful Day, for a Perth supporter.
It was important to win a close one and against another team above us. Important for the belief system.
I thought our midfield were on top in the first half but I thought they got on top in the second half. Both sides missed very gettable shots on goal. In the end it turned into a scrap and we had our noses in front when the siren sounded.
When I walked into the ground and found out Clarke wasn’t playing, I was questioning the decision to drive up. But glad I did. That was one of the best wins for a long time, given the players we had out.
I can’t get over the advancement Wills has made. His pace was extraordinary. That run into to the forward 50 was fantastic.
He will learn that he needed to take time to steady for the shot on goal.
In fairness, maybe no-one was talking to him?
That play deserved a goal.
Thank you, Subi, you gooses.
I am excited by our youngsters and some surprises getting a run at it.
Have to pick you up on that fun fact Ted. In 2020 we won 5 and lost 3 before losing to WP in the first semi.
I realise that was an odd season because of Covid but we did finish in the positive. Who can forget the excitement after our win over SF at Lathlain that night.
Kudos on the well deserved win Perth boys…and cheers for the plug SMTM, or can I just call you Tom for short? Perth are home and hosed for finals footy for 2025, not sure why all the second guessing there…grabbing that 2nd chance is the key for making finals these days.
A bit of feeback for the club here - I have been to all but one game this year and always hang around for at least an hour after the game to chat footy. All clubs bar a couple have a players presentations after the game where you get to hear from all grade coaches and get to applaud the efforts of those voted the best on ground. This happened last year at Perth but has only happened once so far this year. Please Dees you have loyal supporters that have been with you through thick and thin - reward these supporters with this opportunity to see/hear from those at the club.
Interesting redleg, I went upstairs after the game and was chatting to a lifetime Perth supporter who grew up in Kensington but lives in Albany nowadays. He was asking me if they do any awards, get up and speak etc…
I said yes they’ll go through awards for best players in all 3 grades and the head coach usually gets up and speaks. He said oh good.
But after being up there for about an hour and most of the senior players were up there, it seemed like it wasn’t going to happen or not anytime soon so I’d had my 1 pint and decided to leave.
So you’re saying there wasn’t any awards last night at all? Interesting. Maybe it’s a call by the senior coach.
Huge result for the Dees.Pretty clear your playing finals in 2025.Finishing 2nd or 3rd on the ladder .Would be huge for the club.
Massive EP match,next week.
Yep, Now that Swans are out of it, I’m jumping on the Demons bandwagon. They should be aiming for 2nd or 3rd and a double chance. A home final at Lathlain would be a first ever I think???
Peel have got EF, WC, C, Perth, S and SD to come. With EF’s recent form, Peel may win 5 of these. Perth has to bank two more wins yet. I do think WP are finished now though.
That Marsh incident was bizarre. I saw him down holding his knee with no one within cooee of him and several seconds later some ump blows his whistle while the play is 50 metres away and gives Marshmallow a free kick.
I loved hearing Parfitts’ answer when asked on Sport FM the other day how he’s found it here in the WAFL. He said it’s more pure fundamental football over here compared with the VFL and SANFL which is more like a rugby scrum.
Obviously loving the bigger firmer grounds. Hopefully means he will stay long term. Doesn’t mind flying the flag when he sees a team mate getting whacked. If he gave Marshmallow a tummy tap then it was probably payback. Went down like autumn leaves.
Parfitt had started working at the club taking Stubbs aboriginal liaison officers job so hopefully that means he is looking at staying around fingers crossed.
Would be great to be able to sit down and watch a replay of the game - but as we know we are the only league around Australia that you can’t. RIDICULOUS!!!
Yes the countdown to the pointy end of the season is upon us already. Each team has only 6 more qualifying matches before the Finals begin. It feels as if the season has flown by.
