Perth v Peel

Spot on Freezin. End of story. BTB was right on the money from the get go. I gave McMahon and those that appointed him the benefit of the doubt in his first year which was a pass mark year but when we learned his contract was extended by a year before his second year began we were stunned and we’ve gone backwards from that moment on, and then still they gave him another year.

With John Dimmer and Brian Cook on the selection panel in the search for the next coach hopefully the next appointment will be the right one.

BTB why don’t just friggin disappear.
You are pain and a twit.
Thank Christ you’re no longer at the club.
You are the type of father that should banned.
From life.

He’s not Max’s dad. He is a fraud. Just don’t give him your time. It’s actually sad that he continually portrays himself as Max’s dad.

Its our last chance to pick the right one,get this one wrong and the fans will just start walking…and keep walking.

Hopefully amongst the so called 20 applicants there are 2 or 3 that really standout as worthy applicants.

The last few weeks (on top of the past few decades) hasnt been a good advertisment for a club going anywhere in a hurry!

Obviously I wasn’t there on Saturday but Perth could quite easily have won all three games against us this season. With respect to Saturday 16 Freo players out of 22 - obviously the 6 non-aligned players were the difference between Perth winning and Freo winning. Do The West Journalists have ANY credibility at all?

could quite easily have won

aint that the story of perths last few decades..

Will preface this by saying apologies for the length of the post - especially as a first post.

From where i look what needs serious consideration, in addition to the coaching which will always be the big ticket item, is the strength and conditioning areas and the recruiting, two areas that fall under the Football Managers role.

Currently the players out are Morton, Morton, Morton, Hodge, Stack (played reserves after injury), Bevan (susp),Irons, Risol, Leeson, Smith (played reserves after originally being ruled out),Kane, Keast, Boyle, Busher, Richardson, Chrimes, Hunt, Holland and Moore. There is probably more that i cant think of. So of those, 14 play regular league football. If you want to know where the issues lie, i dont care what club you are from, that list is going to destroy your season. The reserves have hardly been able to field a team for the past 6-8 weeks, and on the weekend 3 of the better colts kids were running around for them. Then when you take those 3 out of the colts, the struggle continues down the line. Serious questions need to be asked about what is going on with the injuries - you can now add Leyendekkers who is on crutches before half time, Florio is on one leg from early in the third.

Also, why were Perth not actively recruiting players from East Perth and Peel who were not going to play alot of senior football given the alignments. Guys like Cadwallader, Howlett, Westwood, Hawksley, Green, Lawrence, Garlett who is a Perth boy - why did it take until a week before June 30 to get Tropiano. Points were heavily wasted on guys that, even by looking at them for a few weeks, were going to struggle to have an impact let alone be worth the allocations they cost. Looking locally would have netted a better result with less points

From where i sat, last weeks effort against Swans was perhaps, pound for pound, the best performance of the season, given who was missing. Then more players go out and they come up against a Peel side with what, 15 or so dockers. The Peel reserves side had something like 16 guys who had played either WAFL league or AFL. It doesnt make the result any better and it doesnt excuse performance, but for mine there are reasons behind the scenes that need the same consideration as the coaching

Agree 100% with what you have said there Blueblood.

You can’t fault the effort of the boys out there on Saturday but they were completely outclassed at every turn and down to one on the bench by the last quarter.

Time to play the kids now. Daniel Arangio needs to play this week. He played another ripper game in the reserves.

Yep Cruize Garlett, Kelvin Lawrence, Kristian Thornton, Laine Wilkins and James Hawksley would be exactly the type of players we should have been targeting. No speculative plonks from bush leagues in Victoria.

I think the problem with recruiting quality players from EP and Peel was not only the points but the clubs were still forced to pay the maximum transfer fees. Sounds good thinking we or any other clubs could have grabbed 3 or 4 players but would have cost a fortune

Need to be careful with guys like Arangio. Hes not ready yet either but he has ability and he is a decent size. Ive been of the opinion that gifting league games on the back of normal performance in reserves is often part of the problem. He was out with injury only a week ago from memory. Its like Edmonds - he is going to be a beauty in the future but hes not physically ready for league yet. They do however need to find out on some guys who are playing with points in the reserves.

On the weekend the starting middle in the twos was Sandilands, Browne (colt), Tanner (colt) and Edmonds (just turned 19). One of the wings was Cox who is 19. The best player from the week before was Chester 19, who was injured for the game against Peel

We were talking on Saturday about how the entire Perth defence from the start of the year was out - Irons, Risol, Kane, Smith, Morton, Morton - and that forward wise Busher, Morton, Bevan, Stack, Leeson and Boyle were all missing. It really leaves you wide open to get smacked im afraid, which they did

Good post Blueblood, we are severely hampered by injuries which raises qquestions about our strength and conditioning methods. Has been a problem for years. I wasn’t too disappointed with Saturdays effort. I picked Peel based on our outs and their ins. The boys are having a crack. The players we picked up from EP are B graders at best. We should be going after their A graders. Tropiano was a very good pick up. More like that please.

Bazza, fuck off you troll.

Sacko, the AFL aligned clubs appear to be holding WAFL clubs to ransom in regard to player transfers.
The WAFC must give players who wish to leave Peel or EP more incentive to do so by reducing maximum transfer fees to a bare minimum and reducing the points to, say 2 or 3. As it stands, a player who has played just 1 AFL game somewhere along the way is an automatic 10 points. That is Bust.
There are far too many quality WAFL players at Peel and EP playing ressies instead of league.

Hawksley is their marquee player so he is getting an extra 10k on top of his contract to play magoos !

So why is he playing Ressies???

no idea, just passing on the info

Certainly not saying that the chase should have included 3 or 4 - but picking up Tropiano proved that some of those locally listed would have still been moderately priced - if you start the year losing Ali Smith, Tedesco, Sketcher and Jacobs (im leaving out Reimers), then they have to be replaced at a bare minimum, given all were, for the vast majority, league players. Im not sure that this was done, and while it is easy to place everything onto the coach, my point is that the football department has as much to answer, let alone the strength and conditioning, which has become a laughing stock. Surely it wasnt luck alone that had Swans playing only 24 players in the first 8 or so rounds

Truth is DD i think given the injuries again on the weekend, you are going to find out about nearly everyone on the list regardless of whether you actually want to

Very good first post blueblood and I agree 100%.

Some big outs there and they would improve our squad a lot. But we have had many of them together at some stage of the season and still couldn’t get the job done. Mainly being over run in the last quarters of games.

In regards to gifting kids games I think it can be beneficial if done the right way. Conor Blakely from Swans last year played colts, then reserves and one game of league. In my opinion sometimes that 1-2 games exposure at league level and to a lesser extent reserves can greatly aid a player in his development. i.e it might give them a slight reality check and spur them on to work even harder during the following preseason to play LEAGUE FOOTBALL more regularly.

Players that might play that one game of league before the season is out I think are Hayden Tanner, Mitch Browne, Sam Garstone and would like to see Daniel Arangio play out the rest of the year knowing that he isn’t going to get dropped unless he is injured. I would give Mark Deaves the rest of the season as well. He kicked 4 goals on the weekend and showed glimpses but still would like to see more consistency from him. As a key forward he should be taking 6 plus marks a game and at least 3-4 good opportunities on goal.

Good luck getting Kristin Thornton, could’ve had him if his brother wasn’t treated so badly.

Have a look in the ressies and see how many good players are running around at different clubs and can,t get a go due to returning ex afl players or recycled wafl players. There are plenty of Troppiano,s and better out there.
Subiaco ressies would go close to knocking off your league side now the way they are travelling at the moment. Have a look through that list for next year.
