Perth Glory v Sydney FC 2019 GF

Who’s toilet donated the seat for the trophy?

Just come home after watching the glory. Soccer certainly has a different passion to aussie rules. It was my first A League game and I enjoyed it, it was ok. Now I’m looking forward to to a game at Spurs new ground.

Very disappointing way to end the season after an outstanding season bar that one. Hard for me to really assess being at the game and a very good seat you don’t see everything but looked to me like Castro had a shocker trying to be too clever and losing the ball and slipping over a lot. Probably to do with the surface but I’m pretty sure Sydney played on the same surface. We seemed to create the most chances and came close on a few occasions.

Popovic now 0 - 4 in grand finals. That’s not a monkey on your back, that’s a gorilla.

Sounds like Ross Lyon.
Justice has prevailed. That disallowed goal by Sydney FC was legit.

I thought the Glory had the better chances and could have been 2-0 up but for brilliant saves by Redmayne. It’s tough to lose on a shoot out like that but that’s the way it goes. The surface looked very hard and caused players to slip a bit but agree with the comment that Castro over used the ball on occasions and Ikonomides went a bit quiet after half time following a terrific first half which also impacted on the Glory’s penetration up front. Oh well…there’s next year and Fornaroli will be in purple…I wonder what that will mean for Keogh? Maybe off the bench more often than not.

I know they go through it cos Aussies love finals but I really think players and those involved value premiers plate much much highetr than gf win.

StT both trophies are of great importance but the GF would be of higher priority one would think. That trophy means you are champions.

It’s been a great season and disappointing to lose via penalties. Tony Popovic’s starting to have an unwanted record now. What’s that three A-League GF’s lost now.

BC I think we need to find someone like Rhyan Grant who has some real mongrel about him that gets under the skin of his opponents but also has the talent to help set up dangerous plays for his team.

Dino Djulbic has been a wonderful servant for the Glory but if he is an A League A grader I’ll eat my hat. We can’t afford to be carrying a defender that retreats backwards or straight back to the guy who just passed it to him because he lacks the skill to beat anyone or to execute a skilful pass of his own. And we have been missing a top notch dead ball specialist since Nebojsa Marinkovic. He had the most lethal boot in the A league from the corners and free kicks within range, he used to terrorize goal keepers.

With Alex Grant fit next year I think Drillbit will find it hard to break into the starting line up. I also think Kilkenny does pretty well kicking in from corners but agree with Marinkovic…he was brilliant from free kicks.

After lifting my bottom lip up off the ground and watching the game on tv I’ve changed my view on the game. I thought it was an outstanding grand final contest. Exactly what you expect from the two best teams in the league. Perth created the most chances and looked most likely to score so I’m proud of their performance and I’m not going to hang shit on them for losing the game on penalties.

Credit to Sydney they are a class act and their skipper Alex Brosque was also a class act and very gracious towards Perth Glory and the Perth crowd for creating a great spectacle fitting of a grand final. Well done to both clubs. The challenge now for Perth is to go on and become a great club like Sydney.

Great venue and crowd, but tbh the quality of the game was ordinary.

Are you basing that on seeing it live at the game Bazza or have you watched it on Foxtel? I think live you are there in the moment, you don’t see as much as on the tv which sounds strange. Looking at the game on Foxtel it was a better game that I felt at the game and i think that comes down to being frustrated we didn’t score and didn’t win. You expect the two top teams to be very good defensively and I think the nil nil scoreline at the end of regulation and extra time goes to show how evenly matched the two sides were.

Players from both sides slipped over a lot on the surface at Optus Stadium and it could have affected the result. I think the first Sydney player to take his penalty slipped in the act of kicking but fortunately for him he still struck it well and scored.

Now that the season is finished I wonder if Fornaroli will come in against Man U? Limited minutes off the bench maybe in place of Santalab…

I’ve read that Alex Brosque has said he believes the side who wins the Premiers plate should be crowned Champions and no need for semi finals and a final. And he is qualified to speak because Sydney last year finished on top but in his words “played one bad game” in the semi final against Victory who went on to become Champions.

He said we already have the FFA Cup (FA Cup equivalent) so there is no need to have a finals series. But look at the FA Cup just recently, A giant club like Manchester City v Watford. I think the scoreline was 5 - 1 or 6 - 1. Are Watford even an EPL team? it’s a lucky dip knockout competition.

If you had Glory v a Melbourne or Sydney suburban club in a FFA final you would be lucky to fill HBF Park so it would rob the A League of the sort of spectacle and drama we saw in front of almost 60,000 people.
