It wasn’t young Evans fault unfortunately he was left to clean up someone’s mess.
For what it’s worth, here is my take on todays game. Some people won’t agree with me but what the hell, here it is anyway. To me, as frustrating as large parts of that game were, Perth showed today that we deserve to play finals. West Perth were very good today, especially in that third quarter. It was close to 1/2 time, remember, but WP dominated in the third. In that situation in probably any of the past 20 years or more, a 38 point deficit would have gone on to a 60+ point drubbing. The way Perth came back in that last quarter was a testament to the vast improvement this club has shown this season. Look back at pre-season predictions and very few tipped a top 5 position and a lot tipped 9th. Yes, this team is not yet a powerhouse of the competition but the players and coaches clearly have far more confidence that they can bounce back from adversity, just as they did today. And if Schlensog’s very clear goal was awarded as such, the difference would have been 5 points with 10 minutes left. Who knows what would have happened then? Perth deserve to be playing finals and, regardless of who pulls on a jumper, know with confidence that the effort and determination will be there. We may or may not go far into September but, by crikey, anything will be better than what we have endured for so long. Be proud of your club and celebrate the inroads that have been made. Let’s all support the club in its endeavours to keep the momentum going to the end of the year and beyond. So there.
Agree CM - and I confess I was the one of the people who had us 9th. As I said, our backline was poor and we cost ourselves with a lack of composure. Even Charlie, as good as he was, gave up two goals with panicked dump kicks, Luers rushed an easy snap in the second term, and Paton could have drawn a player and handballed to Charlie in the last to make a one game instead of blazing away with a banana that went out on the full. Plus the 15-7 free kick count late into the third didn’t help… But for all that, it was a decent effort for an undermanned team and very positive season overall.
If we can keep our required players, have a better run with injury and add a couple of recruits - Narkle has to be a chance - we can hopefully back it up next year.
I agree the 4th quarter showed that things are changing at Lathlain.
Given the injuries and the youth of some of our players, it’s been a good year.
If we are good enough we will have a home final and win it.
Maybe if South have maxed out their points. Heard that’s where he’ll finish up once Freo give him the heave ho.
Maybe the Geelong connection especially with Parfitt might get us over the line and he’s a 1 point player for us.
The wet weather doesn’t suit our game was worried walking into the game seeing how heavy and soaked the oval was. We get bullied when it’s that type of game style. The fight back in the last was encouraging with the momentum killed with the goal umps getting in the way of that goal if it was rewarded I think we would have pinched that. Get 2 wins of the last 3 keep 4th and a home final I’d be happy about that.
Another wet weekend forecast unfortunately, can’t image Lane Group Stadium will be in great condition!
Sounds like another stormy weekend, maybe some strange results may come in..
Yes Bazza, EP to win.
