Old Perth Pubs, long gone

A lot have disappeared over the years. Some well loved, others maybe not so much but all icons. Gone!

I remember the John Barleycorn Hotel in Nollamara for one. It had that art-decor design. Interesting place.

The Karrinyup Tavern got demolished years ago.

The Majestic Hotel in Applecross too. Now that was a pub.

The Scarborough Hotel was a beauty back in the day.

Here in Queens park the corro was demolished a few years ago,it was always an entertaining place to be around.Flash new apartments now being bulit there

A few off the top of my head that have gone the way of the dodo bird & the EPFC LH are the Swanbourne, Mosman Park, Highway, Cannington, Scarborough, Shenton Park. There used to be one in Northbridge I frequented in my younger days as well that is now a backpackers/Eurobar closed about 1997 just cant remember its name???

Another classic bites the dust :frowning:

Is the Hurlingham still in existence?

Also what was that pub on the river at the back of Ascot. It might still be standing but not in use?

Where abouts was the John Barleycorn located in Nollamara mate?

Is the Noble Falls still operating, had to drive all the way out there for the Sunday session?

Shit that’s going back.

It was right inbetween the little shopping area and Des Penman Reserve. I’ll see if I can find a picture of it. Funny looking joint is was.

Nah not even a photo remains.

The Newmarket down South Freo way was left derelict the last time I drove past a couple of years ago is another!
Steves in Nedlands was turned into flash apartments & a bottle shop as well from memory.

My favourite, the Nookenburra (or the Nookie as we knew it) in Innaloo.

I even remember the Wentworth in William St and the legendary Criterion on Hay St with its cellar bar. You only entered there at your own risk.

The Bullcreek has just been demolished looks like a Dan Murphy going there.

Same with The Glengarry in Duncraig. Another grog mega-warehouse going there.

The Nookenburra has been turned into the god damn awful Botanica now Dazz ..a completely different clientele from the old Nookie days let me tell ya!!

Not the Criterion cellar bar as well. :frowning:

I only visited there about a year or so ago.

What about The Globe on Wellington St. hahaha…that joint was humming at 8.00am :silly:

DG, is that kinda interesting looking one in Willagee/O’Connor (Not so good on Southern suburbs) still up and about?

Not wrong there BH! Used to love the Nookie as a kid. For a long time it had an Aboriginal statue on top of it and it was the icon of the suburb. Was always wall to wall blue singlets and the lounge bar out the back used to serve up man food like lamb chops with salad seven nights a week.

And now you have to line up to get your driver’s licence scanned at the door before they let you in that poor excuse for a pub ..if they did that in the old Nookie days no one would have been let in the joint!! :stuck_out_tongue:
