Llke the end of the Ashes series. There appears to be selection and tactical problems, with the Aussies.
Nothing has changed so nothing will change. The Manager is total bafoon. With a RSA mauling on the horizon.
TBH gtr the whole squad are buffoons…WA boys in Marsh and Green in particular…followed closely by Carey and Cummins…the Aust ethos of picking their best test side for every format is an ongoing issue…times have changed…
Yes correct Freeze
You’re in good form today Freezin, smashing those full tosses to the boundary ![]()
Seriously though I think the Aussie ODI team is a decent one in Australian conditions but the only problem is that they are not playing in Australia. Wasn’t going to be rocket science that India would produce some raging turners for their games because they have 3 front line spinners in Jadeja, Kuldeep and Ashwin. What did Australia have in response? Zampa who is just returning from an injury and Maxwell who is a batting all rounder but not a front liner. In the sheds they have Sangha who is going to be a very good player but is not ready for the world cup pressure as yet.
When Agar was ruled out surely it would have been better to select someone like Kuhnemann who bowled really well in India last year and would be more economical than Sangha. Cam Green would be much better off playing Shield cricket in preparation for the test summer. They already have the pace/all rounder slots covered with Stonis and Marsh.
I think there has been some muddled selection decisions which haven’t really taken into account the conditions the team will come across
Having said that, good luck to anyone trying to beat India in this tournament.
[quote=“mikeh post=231463 userid=926”]I was gob smacked that Australia chose to bat given the history of the pitches in India skidding on and becoming easier to bat in the evening. Like on so many occasions in India, the batting was clueless against spin. You would think with so many of these guys having played IPL they would have worked something out by now. If they had bowled first, they may have been able to use Zampa and Maxwell in a more attacking mode.
Its only one game but with a rampant South Africa next on the schedule they will be probably be playing catch up cricket early in the tournament

we don’t seem to have an aggressive approach and there isn’t any unpredictability or any X-factor - maybe a call up for Tim David or even putting Maxwell up top for a mix up
Carey is out of form altogether and Inglis needs a shot now
Southerner i would love to see Tim David selected.
yeah they used to do the same preparation in the West Indies - Barbados I think from memory mate
then they used to get an industrial-sized cement skimmer and polish it to a mirror shine
Southerner that was the wicket early Saturday morning.Surley you bat second on that deck?
they looked spooked just all over the place apart from a very brief bit of bowling to start with
unfortunately the ACB won’t act by preparing wildly bouncing green tops in reparte’ for when India tour here mate so they just do what they like when tours are on over there
Correct me if wrong but I recall the ICC banned Barbados from doing their old methods
for mine - pitches need to have strict conditions placed upon them while preserving their natural character
pouring fuels on pitches is just rubbish , it is a form of cheating
and so is deliberately scarifying or scratching away the surface on game day

he is the Suryakumar of Australia
almost impossible to bowl to when he’s going
and the IPL loves him
For the many scratching their heads at these insipid decisions from Australia like opting to bat first in Indian conditions, the selection of only one specialist spinner in Indian conditions, continuing to play the hopelessly out of form Carey etc etc.
I give you 3 reasons all beginning with C-
Ceo- pom completely out of his depth running Australian Cricket!
Clown- couldnt coach my dog to his food bowl!
Cummins- great bowler, as bad a skipper as thee on the SS Minnow!
You forgot the 4th C BH…the only C out of that lot that has been the root of many an Australian side failure over the years, especially on the sub continent.
Can’t play spin - irrespective of who has been the CEO, Coach and Captain.. But agree, the decision making for this WC and v India has been deplorable and hopefully heads will role, just not the three you highlighted in your post…selectors and players as well.
The Aust team just looks so stale…an ODI side looking like a test team, playing with a red ball ethos.
Is it just me or is anyone else underwhelmed by the start of this world cup? Half empty stadiums, one sided games and very little atmosphere. 6 weeks is a ridiculous amount of time for this sort of tournament. There should be more than 1 game a day and then you would finish the preliminary matches in half that time.
Organisers are probably hoping that the India v Pakistan game this Sunday will give the tournament a bit of much needed momentum.
the big worry for the caped woke crusaders McDonald & Cummins is that just about all other countries are amassing huge totals - and some absolute floggings are imminent
Cant remember the last time in a world cup where everyone played each other. 2 divisions broken in half with the top two through to the finals.
Clearly India has a deal where they can show the games live in India on TV and thats whats driving this long tournament
after watching the first 18 overs of calamity and farcial cricket - Australia are staring at chasing 400
bowling first really needed the best bowlers on straight up to get wickets
and get your fielding spot on
3 drops already
This is actually embarrassing and cringeworthy from the Australian team. They looked completely disinterested in the field with dropped catches, numerous misfields and they allowed their opposition to get about 40 over par. Now the batsmen are struggling to get it off the square.
Afghanistan and the Netherlands may be fancying their chances when their turn comes to play what is surely the poorest Australian squad to be ever sent to a world cup

This tournament mirrors 2019 in England and Wales - each team played the other nine once for a total of 45 matches.
Hilarious stuff from the Aussies so far. Whether batting becomes easier in the 2nd innings depends on whether we are batting or not. If we are it gets more difficult, if we are not it gets easier!
Can see a few retirements coming up soon…both on and off the park. Not much to say or see here sadly.
