NO AFL IN THE SANFL

As most of you would be aware, the 2 SA based AFL sides are both trying to get some form of reserves side into the SANFL at some level.

I won’t bore you with the details of their various attempts. What I would like to bring to your attention is the campaign that has been undertaken by a very dedicated CDFC / SANFL supporter. He spent $450 of his own money to have a banner made up declaring “NO AFL IN THE SANFL”. This banner (or Eric, as he has been named) has been taken to the footy on the weekends and held up for all to see, by different members of different team’s cheer squads at different grounds. The first attempt at the showing of Eric saw those holing the banner during the quarter time break removed from the oval (not allowed to show non SANFL approved banners on the oval). Approval was sought (and denied) but interested parties were told whilst the banner could not be shown on the oval or tied to any structure inside the ground, it is allowed at SANFL games.

So there has been some toing and frowing from the SANFL, Eric’s handlers and the apes the SANFL hire for gameday security. It all came to a head on Saturday with Eric and the banner’s handlers being removed from the ground by police. here’s a video of the eviction;

This is not the end of this saga…stay tuned.

I hope they have the common sense not to allow it to happen in the SANFL Matt unlike over here! :angry:

Well done by this fellow

I truly hope the SANFL keeps clear & does not go the way it has gone here. You guys need to keep up the fight whilst bringing the attention to the public. Perhaps another idea would be to ask people attending Sanfl matches to sign petitions at the various grounds?

And BOO to the police for evicting them.

Samatt, I would have thought that Port Adelaide pretty well had a reserves side or affiliation with the local Port Adelaide in the SANFL.

Unofficially, of course Puppy. Slowly but surely powder players are complaining they’re not getting a fair chance at their SANFL club, and suprise suprise, they get a transfer from whatever SANFL club to…wait for it…Port Adelaide Magpies. This is standard under the table, back door tatics PA have used for many decades to get things their way.

Good luck with your fight over in the SANFL; absolutely nothing good can come from either a host club or AFL reserves’ teams in the SANFL.
