New to the site

Hello, my name is Steph. I live in the northern suburbs. i immigrated from Africa. I went to my very first Afl game today at Claremont oval. My next door neighbour who is a passionate West Perth supporter took me on the train so i have followed his passion and i now am a West Perth suppoter. He has given me a shirt and i love the colours. I hope i can contribute to this site anf if i get the rules wrong or i disgribe things badly, please respect me. I was told that the referis are maggots but i think Brian was joking.

You have picked up the lingo pretty quickly there Raptor but you could have chosen a better WAFL club to support!

Rule 1 Raptor. You went to a game of Australian Rules Football, not AFL.
The AFL is a competition and not a sport, despite the fact they try and brainwash everyone about that.
And welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum Raptor.
Many people from overseas are a bit confused about Aussies Rules footy. But you will find gameplay and the rules easy enough to understand. Well done on getting across to Claremont Oval to see your first Wafl match.
You will find plenty of good knowledgeable people in the forums if you have any questions. And welcome aboard.

You got it 100% correct Raptor the refs are maggots, welcome along

good one mate
I would also us the ‘wafl’ or ‘aussie rules’ when referring to the league, otherwise, even in this state, most people will start rattling on about that competition which is played largely ‘over east’, as we would say.

You think that’s confusing Frothy, I wonder if Steph has asked neighbour Brian in the Northern suburbs, why is your team called West Perth when it’s in the northern suburbs and so far from West Perth?

Penny dropped yet WPFC???

Raptor…you will soon realize the umps also go by a variety of other names too mate..LOL..enjoy watching your team playing finals, most folk here don’t have such luxury…or had that luxury for a few years…even decades…welcome aboard mate.

Welcome Raptor…nice to have you on board. Since you’re new to the caper I’d be happy to give you a bit of a history lesson on the greatest moments of the WAFL starting with 1973 then drilling down into the glory years of 1986, 88, 2004, 06, 07, 08 then 2014, 15, 18 and ending with 2019. I’d also touch briefly on 1995 when a bloke called Paul Mifka singlehandedly brought the game into total disrepute. B) Anyway…that’s for another day…enjoy the WAFL and this site.

Great educational tour for a newby BC. Heatley got a few love taps from Mifka, I was behind the goal posts and there was nothing in it. Heatley played out the game with a few goals to his credit, Groom kicked six goals and got his face smashed in by you know who and couldn’t play out the game, we were one down and still West Perth won the Grand Final.
MORE IMPORTANTLY. Welcome Raptor. Maybe we can meet up for a beer at Joondalup when we play BCs self righteous Subiaco. Perhaps BC might like to join us.

Tongue in cheek Winger…and a point of order…Heatley was king hit before the ball was even bounced by probably the most gutless player to ever pull on a West Perth jumper and believe me there’s been a few. Your former premiership coach whacked Groom in an equally gutless effort. I also remember Turley shitting himself when Langdon shaped up to him..it was just about running down his leg, but hey, you lot won the flag by 10 goals and that’s all that matters.

Needless to say you won’t be accepting Winger’s invitation BC? Things could get out of hand very quickly I sense.

Nah mate…Winger and I are all good. We’ve tried catching up for a beer in the past but it hasn’t worked out for a variety of reasons. I thought I’d ramp up the banter ahead of this week’s game and it’s also likely we’ll play each other in the 1st semi if Subi makes it. There’s a lot of history between Subi and WP supporters on FG over the years and reckon it could be fun to revive it on here within reason.

NO BC, it wasn’t Craig Turley that tangled with that dope Langdon, it was Todd Curley. It was on the members wing. You got your Turleys and Curleys mixed up mate. Anyway when are we going to have that drink my friend.

Happy to have a beer any time Winger but given the next couple of games between the two clubs are potentially up at Arena Jerkalup and they won’t let me into the members, maybe I’ll wait outside the door and you can bring me out a can of Coke and a packet of chips.

All folk are welcome into the upstairs bars, just walk in. The club has control of both bars now and the catering and everybody is welcome so COME ON UP and enjoy the Falcons hospitality. BTW BC, no packet chips, Fried chips in duck fat with chicken salt and vinegar.Remember B & H, only the best will do.

Don’t turn your back BC, beware the king hit

Gee Winger…do you get a free coronary bypass thrown in with every serve? B)

Sage advice Frothy…
