New European Soccer League

I am a little surprised that there hasn’t been any commentary about this as yet. I would expect FIFA to announce that any club participating in such a competition will not be allowed to participate in any competition that is under the auspices of any association that is affiliated with FIFA. I would also expect them to announce a lifetime ban on any player participation in that competition.

To put this into context; it is hard to argue that this is similar to the situation when amateur tennis players became professional players.

Would it be more akin to the World Series Cricket revolution 42?

I don’t think so BH. The motivation for Packer was he wanted cricket on Channel 9. The motivation for the players was ostensibly to get better paid. One can hardly compare what the cricketers were getting paid in that era compared to multi-million dollar contracts that the soccer players who would be involved in this competition are being paid.

Just another way for the big rich powerful clubs. To generate more revenue and stay on top..
Outside of the A- League does any other soccer competition have a salary cap.The games totally unsustainable long term.Even Manchester United are billions of $$$ in debt.

Pure unadulterated greed, no more, no less. Professional Football ( soccer) is no longer a sport but a business run by bloated squillionairres who don’t really care about the fans.

Good posts-- when it re–writes the the premier league’s rules the powers that be must state that ‘expulsion’ will follow from any similar move in the future. The clubs in the north east are bigger than the London sides.

one thinks of the Pink Floyd song, but they were taking the piddle out of the yanks at the time; England has changed.
