New centre ruck contests

With new ruck rules being displayed lsdt night, I think we saw a change for the good.
We saw leapers have to change their styles at centre contests. No more mauling.
No longer will the bruising brutes be a threat at centre contest. Yes they will still be needed around the ground, as nothing changes in those contests.
Maybe a new centre type ruckman will emerge for that specific contest.
It was interesting to watch how the likes of Cameron and Gawn tried different things.
Maybe smaller high leapers will come to the fore just for that event.
The stand rule didn’t come to the fore in the game.
It was obvious that the set shots were on limited time. Kick outs not so noticable.
Last touch was only used once or twice I think.
But a review for a touched ball took several minutes. This is a blight on the game. Fix the bunker. Get the ball chipped.
What did you make of the rule changes?

The less each year,the better!

Can they just leave the Game alone for 1 lousy year?

I won’t hold my breath!

But what did you think of the changes. Are they for the better. The changes have been made, either they work or they don’t.
Either they improve the game or they don’t.
I like the new ruck rule.

Ok,they SUCK!

New centre bounce ruck rules are great…good to see rucks jumping at the ball again and not just standing there and wrestling!

Should open up the contest more and hopefully see less repeat stoppages at centre bounces.

Don’t mind the last touch rule but the delay of game waiting for the video review took too long, if they’re not sure within 10 secs then just throw it in.

Ok,here’s a Rule the AFL would NEVER bring in,or a sub part of a rule.

The 2 Teams each week cop a Fine if they do not break their huddles before each Quarter, within a satisfactory time.

I daresay it’s 20 seconds.

How about TV Networks who hold the works up,when everyone else is ready to go?

Like about a Good 2 minutes?

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Twice when we played Claremont late in the season and the 1st semi our ruckman was on top at the centre bounces against Oliver Eastland, then suddenly in the second qtr he’s being penalised for leaping when Eastland chose not to. This should stop this tactic of ruckmen trying to stop the other from leaping trying to make it look like he’s jumped too early.

Like the ruck and last touch rules, but leave last touch to the umps, no review. The stand rule is crap, gives too big an advantage to the kicker. Maybe if the umps were super strict with calling play-on the instant the kicker moves a cm off their line. Currently they can run a couple of metres off line before the ump calls play-on.

Yep.

Umps really let themselves down when players are off in possession of the pill and fans are screaming out at the Umps,”F***ing call Play - On!”

Get with it Umpies!

Good call @SeniorSeagull .
Totally agree.

@SeniorSeagull after watching some games, the stand rule has changed a bit. It looks like as soon as the ball winner makes a move to play on it is called immediately. If there are players that have followed ther opposition is close enough, he can tackle. The 5 metre rule looks different in that respect.
The ruck rule is quickly sorting itself out. If they are worried about a ruckman going over the line in the centre, take the line away. Just let them jump for the ball. The smart rucks will work it out very quickly.

Watching the WCE V Port. Sadly listening to King.A ruck contest, Eagle ruck blatant push in the back against the Power ruck. That is Blatant with a capital B.Free kick paid, as it should have been. Port kick a goal.
King, gee that’s a tough penalty. The kick was probably there, but gee a tough penatly. FFS King wake up. It was a free, not maybe it was there. Even Stevie Wonder would have paid it.
You really are a moron.

See Max Gawn has had a whinge that the new CBD ruck rule ‘has taken ruck craft away’, No the introduction of the centre circle and allowing rucks to wrestle at the CBDs took ruck craft away Max!

Watched young Zane Zakostelsky on debut for Brisbane out ruck a taller experienced Witts for Suns at CBDs. Jackson impressive for Freo. So good to see athletic rucks back and dominating CBDs

Be a few nervous ruck ogres concerned about their AFL futures - Grundy, Xerri, Gawn, O’Brien, Witts, Meek & Darcy all under pressure to adapt or they are done

Agree TT. Don’t complain because he has had it easy too long. Love seeing the leapers at least at centre contests.

How good was the Pies young ruck, Oscar Steene,on Friday night.
His tap work was first class. He looks a keeper.
And I wonder how the AFL rules committee can allow the wrestling to continue in round the ground ruck contests.
Two ruck contesting, putting arms around each other… else where a dead set free kick.
Arm over shoulders…. elsewhere a dead set free kick.
Players tossing each other out of contests… elsewhere, a dead set free kick.
How can the rules be different in ruck contests to other positions on the ground!!
Makes a sham of wanting to clean up the game.
