Try this one, it all reads the same, I like her comment about the following
There are 71 Aboriginal players in the AFL; only one is routinely booed and it has nothing to do with the colour of his skin.
These days any idiot in the crowd who yells out a racist slur is set upon by other fans, reported to authorities and promptly ejected. Some have had memberships cancelled by their club, and rightly so; there should be a zero tolerance approach to bigotry whether it’s racial, religious or homophobic.
But to muddy the waters between the tiniest racist minority and the thousands of fans who boo Goodes is not only disingenuous, it is counterproductive.
There’s no doubt that part of the reason why Goodes has continued to be loudly booed is a backlash to the hectoring of media scribes who from day one wilfully misinterpreted why the former Australian of the Year is disliked by so many opposition supporters.
Turns out football supporters don’t appreciate being falsely labelled racists.
Sadly, the ill-advised reaction of certain sections of the media, as well as club and AFL officials, has all but guaranteed that Goodes will be booed, in every away game, for the rest of his playing career and perhaps even during the retiree lap of honour on Grand Final day.

PH I couldn’t get to the article as it was prescription only. To be honest from the piece above it appears that she may have missed the point that of the 71 Aboriginal players Adam is the only one who is outspoken off the field and is telling Australians a few uncomfortable truths and the reaction of many people to him on field is a lot to do with this. It is a disgusting way to treat a legend of the game.
Thats it precisely Mike, you can drive a truck through the 71 other players BS, it pretty much confirms that people are just shitty with him for being an outspoken Aboriginal and how uncomfortable people are with it, you can play footy but don’t cross the line, don’t challenge us on important issues, just shut up.
thats bullshit…you blokes are making a mountain out of a mole hill. he is no more outspoken than Noel Pearson, Cedric Wyatt, Nova Peris, Cathy Freeman or any of the other high profile indigenous activists who put themselves out there…and you don’t hear mainstream Australia criticising them or taking exception to what they say. I characterise Goodes alongside Tony Mundine…I don’t particularly like either of them…not because they’re Aboriginal…but because they’re knobs.

Subscription I meant..
And now we have that idiot shock jock Allan Jones who has poured more fuel on the fire. I fear that we may have seen the last of Adam on the football field and it will be a great shame if this happens because the boofheads will have won. Funny isn’t it that the greatest moment for AFL crowds in the commemoration for Phil Walsh should be around the same time as its most insidious moment in the relentless badgering of this man.
Are you serious mikeh?
I think the entire media has already put fuel on this fire, and Adam Goodes himself hasn’t exactly helped it either being so bloody wimpish over a boo.
Allan Jones is stating an opinion, which everyone is entitled too, lets not forget. Or do we all have to agree to like Adam Goodes, because the AFL tells us all we have too?
I think this sport is really losing its way. By letting attention seeking dickheads totally smother the actual game is hurting it, and I reckon people have had a gutful “now” of being told by the AFL and the media of what we should think and say. It is becoming a joke. Football is merely a sideshow act these days, the endless weekly controversies are the main act. The AFL will become irrelevant quicker than you know because most people are over all this bullshit. Soccer must be having a real laugh at the AFL these days.
Calling supporters Racists for booing Adam Goodes is based on an assumption, not a fact. Therefore saying it is inaccurate, slanderous and litigious. Ejecting someone from a venue on the same grounds is also litigious. And I hope the fellow that was ejected goes all the way through the courts with it.
Yes I am deadly serious jardine and if you want to check any discrimination law in Australia, it talks about the impact on the individual rather than the intent of the behaviour. Now if people cannot see the impact this consistent abuse is having on the player based on what he has probably had to endure as an Aboriginal person all of his life then they are pretty dumb. People just don’t get it that it is NOT the same as booing a white player because they have never been judged on the colour of their skin in their lives and do not understand the emotional pain of discrimination. So people just write it off as an overreaction or someone seeking attention. People on this forum have said that they dislike Adam Goodes but they don’t know him personally so they are also making assumptions too based on inaccurate information.
What about Brent Harvey or Hayden Ballantyne then?
Do people know them personally? They get booed every week too!
I guess it is deemed irrelevant to them because they are white.
So in that sense, that would be considered racism wouldn’t it ?
This is where people have had enough, its the double standards.
And the divide in this issue is widening because of it.
There are a lot of racists out there, no doubt. And believe it or not there are black people who are racist too. But most white people are not racists, yet they are still classed that way because of a few genuine racist idiots. Its almost seems like if you are white, you have to prove you are not racist before anything. And people have had enough of it. Adam Goodes antics and statements about racist aussies has actually set this issue back further, not progressed it. And what shits me most of all is football isn’t football anymore, its been hijacked by issue after issue and its being used as a platform for political debate. I am losing interest in the charade of a sport and I know Im not the only one.
I agree that it is a much wider issue than football and the actual game has been lost in this whole episode. You and I have different views on the matter and I respect your opinion because that is what this forum is about. Exchange of views without personal abuse and this thread has been by and large good for that.
And for those who justify their booing on their perception that Goodes deliberately milks free kicks and ducks, this from a Herald Sun article written by Jon Ralph
This year Adam Goodes — serious ducker, serial free-kick milker, seriously annoying player to many rival fans — has won a grand total of 11 free kicks.
For the entire year.
That figure from Champion Data puts him 168th on the list of AFL players.
Behind a long list of stars including Joel Selwood (44), Anthony Miles (41), Trent Cotchin (39), Marc Murphy (39), Allen Christensen (37) and Todd Goldstein (33).
Of Goodes’ 11 frees this year, not one was for head-high contact.
Which puts him equal 436th in that category.

Not very good at it is he?
And as for Dermott Brereton’s charge that Goodes has got in some cheap shots over the years I have just three words
Kettle. Pot . Black

mate your shooting yourself in the foot Nova Peris has come out very strongly in favour of Goodes she is calling it for what it is. Noel Pearson and Cedric Wyatt havent been present on the sports field, Cathy Freeman got told not carry the Aboriginal Flag, ignored it and got bagged for it, My guess is she would back Goodes strongly
As for comparing a solid citizen like Goodes with Mundine , geez you must be on the weed today.
Barry Hall Ballantyne both had attrictious records on the field and at the tribunal , other player of ilk Leigh Matthews was arrested for AOBH on the field he was a known as a thug.
There are other David Ryhs Jones, Diesel Williams, Carl Dietrich, I have no issue with boos there, becuase there was obvious disstate at bad and dirty play.
is Goodes really in the same catergory as these cretins? Is he a thug ? or a decorated player of 370 league games ?
If he was a dirty mongrel running around breaking jaws the boos would have some merit.
I never gave a toss about opposition fans booing Basil Campbell , I knew it was his style of play that drew the ire of opposition. Needless to say Basil never went on to win a Sandover.
I would of thought that was pretty bloody obvious!
you’re missing the point Bazza…of course Peris has come out in favour of Goodes…why wouldn’t she? ..you and mike are insuating that people who react to Goodes do so because he is an outspoken Aboriginal person. I’m saying there are lot’s of indigenous public figures just like him who espouse similar views but they don’t cop the treatment he does which leaves me to conclude it’s the person people take exception to not his colour. All those I mentioned earlier are respected by mainstream Australia and I for one, have no issue with Goodes standing up for his race and highlighting the injustices past, present and future…but that’s not why I don’t particularly like him…its the way he carries himself on the footy field and I have a similar dislike for Steve Johnson and even Haydn Ballantyne to a certain extent and I’m a Freo supporter…so for yourself, mike and all the others to say it’s because of racism is patent nonsense. tell me this…was your dislike of Gillard based on your apparent misogynism or because she was a shit PM? If it’s the latter than you should be able to see where I’m coming from.
Peris got her seat and the sitting member of 12 years got the boot
Gillard being politically correct and made this decision. Like many she made it was wrong.
So a White sitting member in a safe Labor seat is given the boot and an Aboriginal woman is given the seat… Hmmmmm now isnt that being racist? B)
Goodes getting the Australian of the year another politically correct decision.
It is all bullshit and I feel this one of the reasons Aussies are booing him.
Once can assume there are many people in the community and in Australia who have made monumental sacrifices and helped in the medical and other major social problems in our society and Australia and have actually helped people rather than someone who is a highly paid footballer who has done little except to divide our nation by his actions.
Warren Mundine is a legend in my book.. have a listen to him on the BOLT REPORT from last week.. The panel comes on about halfway through
