Melbourne.Where are they at!!

I watched the Eagles V Melbourne game yesterday and not taking anything away from the Eagles, just how bad are Melbourne!!
They lack desire, they lack intensity they lack football savvy. They play as individuals.
I am amazed that Roos was prepared to take this basket case on.He will be bald or very very grey before his tenure is up at the Dees.
If it wasn’t for Nathan Jones yesterday I would say they did not have one player who looked interested in what is going on.
I know sometimes things go wrong and there is nothing that can be done but their two big recruit forwards have given nothing, and don’t look like giving anything.Dawes It looks like is awhile away from playing and Mitch Clark could very well be finished as a player.
I really pity any young kid who gets picked up by them, they as a club offer nothing. As a team they offer nothing.
How long can the AFL afford to keep them going?

Agree Anchor…if Roos can’t fix them what else can the AFL throw at it. It’s hard to fathom how consistently bad that football club has been. Surely the early draft picks they’ve chosen haven’t all been duds and that bad culture & lack of leadership has ruined some promising young kids before they’ve got up & about. You could be excused for being lost for words in assessing their predicaments.

There are a few AFL sides who would struggle for a win in the VFL.

Expand to quickly, and expect this trend to continue.

I was in Melbourne for work last week & managed to watch a few games live whilst there including the Melbourne vs WCE & I have no hesitation in saying a few WAFL sides would beat Melbourne they are abysmal.
They seemed to have no system in moving the ball, lacked skill, have no confidence whatsoever & even the pressure they applied was below what I have seen in the WAFL (Nathan Jones aside).

Yep they will struggle again this year but I think come seasons end we will have seen some improvement in their game plan / style. Unfortunately tidying up a mess like the MFC doesnt just happen overnight. It might take 2-3 years but I do have the belief that it will happen.

YOLO,they have been saying that for the last 7 or 8 years. When will the turn around begin? It certainly hasn’t happened in the last few.
It really has to be a growing concern to the AFL that the MFC have made no progress over the last few years.with out doubt the team for the wooden spoon, way below the rest of the competition.I think that they should look at the association that they have with the MCC and make changes of some sort.I think the toffs who
run the MCC have too much input to football at the MFC and football in general.

My idea…

Drop them back to VFL for a season next year.

Build skill, build as a group. They should get a few wins, but the losses shouldn’t be significant. Gain confidence.

True Dee’s supporters will attend the games at a suburban ground, and I’m sure there would be more atmosphere than at an empty MCG.

This may also solve the AFL’s fixture issue for 2015.

Put a confident group back into the AFL 2016.

Not as silly as it sounds Mike

I actually like that idea Mike. But I don’t ever think it will happen unfortunately.

A/M - I didn’t know the MCC had any or much pull over the MFC? Care to elaborate or provide instances?

James I am not sure how it actually works ,but a friend of mine from Melbourne who is or was an ardent Mebourne member told me last year that the MCC have far too much influence over what happens re the MFC.He has been a MFC member for donkey years.I think that there are so many who have dual member ships who are more MCC than MFC members and stifle the club.Maybe I am wrong but that seems to be the jist of it.
I wonder how the MFC will get on when TFM is gone and a new CEO is sitting in his chair. Not just Melbourne but other clubs who constantly have their hand out looking for a hand up.Will the mantra still be that no Melbourne based clubs will be allowed to fold and all 18 clubs must survive.
What you are suggesting Mike will never happen. There is no way that there could be a discontinuation of the league like that.It would cause far too many problems for the AFL.It could only occur if they had divisions where the bottom six or so actually dropped to a lower competition and have the chance to go back up on performance.Similar to what they EPL have.

The Melbourne football club is finally starting to look like its on the right track of rebuilding and starting to get the hunger and desire and confidence back that you need to win games hopefully this will continue to grow through out the year amazing what a great senior coach can do hupefully they make the right choice in a successor or it could be backward steps again

Yeah, they are certainly a tougher and more competitive unit this year and they will be even better next year when Roo’s has them for another pre season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them finish with 8 or so wins this year. They will have their work cut out against Port Adelaide next week though

Yeah its going to be a tough one just hope the margin isnt going to be a big one

Do you have any thoughts on a successor? Would Voss be suitable do you think if he was interested?

Wpuldn’t they look at Worsfold before Voss?Worsfold is a proven coach and I think would be a good fit for the Dees.
But haven’t they got a second in charge who was in the running for the Eagles job there now.Trying to think of his name but can’t right now.

Yeah I would take worsfold over voss just cause he is a premiership coach were a developing side we dont need a developing coach like voss nothing agaisnt him he is a champion of the game just not so sure of his coaching yet

I think Vossy is a good coach who was dudded by the Board up there. He made many mistakes early but got it back on track after a shaky start. But I would still think Worsfold would be preferred to Vossy at this stage, that is if Woosha want to coach another team.I don’t think he has ruled it out.
