Mayne & Conca

Please tell me that the club is in talks with these two recently retired Ex-Perth players, even if its only for one or two years.
Any experience we can glean from the likes of Chris and Reece could only be a good thing couldn’t it?

I would imagine that where the club thinks they are at. Do they fill 2 spots with players with limited time, or do they promote the young ones?

I feel more confident about Conca than Mayne.
Mayne has coaching asperations so I think he may end up at Freo as an assistant if he comes home to WA.
Conca is a shade younger and would be well worth while putting some time into bringing him home.
Although he has stated he is keen to continue at AFL, so it will depend if anyone else is interested in him.

Yes would definitely take both but as you say less likely about Mayne especially if Freo go down this development role then Peel is his most likely destination.
I have this gut feel if Conca plays WAFL he’ll go to the highest bidder and that won’t be us.
He left all those years ago and we were on the bottom and I can’t see him returning to us when once again we are on the bottom.
I doubt very much that another AFL club will pick him up.

I think you are on the money. We won’t see either in the red and black

Who will take over from SuperCoach?

We have more money than other clubs, who do we want?

Not sure any other club would use 10 points and pay a hefty transfer fee for Conca. Look at his numbers for Peel. He’ll play at Perth surely.

Mayne looks like he’s past playing and looking to enter the coaching ranks

Chris Mayne has already indicated he wants to continue playing at some level so I don’t think the door is shut as far as that goes. I think if he lands a coaching gig at Fremantle they will try to entice him to play for Peel and help with their development. I know he’s always been loyal to Perth especially when he was playing for Fremantle, often seen at Perth games.

Now Peel and Fremantle have parted ways with Cam Shepherd it will be interesting to see who takes that job on and sounds like their alignment will continue beyond the current agreement which expires this year. Marc Webb would probably be the front runner if he was interested. Maybe they offer Mayne an assistant role there?

Do we? All I ever hear is the centurions fund is never to be touched and we scooped up the least amount from the Jobkeeper bonanza than any other club. Swans raked in 900k, others did very well also. I think we only raked in about 140k.

Isnt he coaching the WA State 18s (19s) side now?
He left Freo last year.

Based on the comments that Mayne is interested in coaching perhaps Perth could offer him your colts’ coaching position and play for your league team.

Not sure that could happen. Does not the WAFC appoint coaches for the Colts teams and pick up the tab??
Interesting point though. Chris Mayne would be an ideal choice as far as PFC might be concerned.
Has he commenced the coaches’ processes? He may be excluded from a direct coaching role. He is a school teacher, I believe, and a role at that level may be a starting point.

Personally speaking there should be a big push to get former players back into the fold - it can only benefit younger players and of course provide depth to squads
There’s not much in the way of negatives

I understand that Mayne has started his coaching accreditation process. He would be the ideal coach for the Colts.
Conca should return to the club. He has several more years in him at WAFL level.
Both players are now off AFL l;ists and revert to the club. I hope that we are diligently exploring all avenues to getting them both back into the Demons fold.

He will be coaching Peel.

yeah I can’t remember where I read the same thing mate - online somewhere

I reckon going straight from AFL to coaching at WAFL level, any level as senior coach, is a big ask and a sure fire recipe for disaster, but what would I know.

One thing is for sure, he’s got some big shoes to fill with SuperCoach getting the arse. He’ll be starting two fake flags behind.

At a guess - Tendai takes over as head coach at Peel and Mayne will play there in a mentor role and take on an assistant or colts coaching Role.
Conca will play for Perth and take over Masto’s money.
