Leederville Oval

I used to enjoy travelling to Leederville Oval to watch the footy even though we usually come away disappointed. I usually stand or sit underneath the grandstand where there are several seating options.

Now, due to the old dugouts being replaced by ground level tall shelters for the interchange benches and emergency umpires and interchange stewards shelter, that area is virtually obsolete as a viewing area to watch the game because everytime the ball is that side of the boundary between half forward and the pocket your vision is obscured. Such a waste.

And also Leederville Oval is still a mud heap cow paddock. I thought they ripped out Malthouses’ mud? I understand there were a few matches played there during the week for the country carnival but geezes it’s bad.

It’s been glaringly obvious two clubs cannot share the ground anymore - it’s killing the surface and it doesn’t get a chance to grow with all the traffic on it
One of the two clubs has to relocate given the damages

West Coast and Perth share Lathlain. No problem there. Leederville grass was laid way too late and it was done with role on not started from scratch with seeds.

Agree, the re-surfacing/re-turfing was done way too late. The contractors (on the City of Vincents “expert advice”) used roll on turf which did not have time (in what was left of the growing season) to establish decent root systems. Both Subi and EP trained away from the club until just before the start of the football fixtures, to no avail. Even the outer is still a mess, with the lighting contractor and City of Vincent at loggerheads as to who does the final restorations around the light towers and grass banks. As for the new dugouts being above ground (blocking out spectator views and telecast angles), that apparently was also on the direction of the City of Vincent’s “Project Manager’s” instructions.

Cannot be worse than that mess at Basso.

TFAF, they also share 2 ovals, not 1.

SS between us (Perth and WC) we now have 8 teams between us. Perth league, reserves, colts, WAFLW and Rogers. WC league (train only), WAFL league and AFLW.

Yep, same for Subi & EP, 3 mens grades and WAFLW … oops forgot the Rogers cup ladies so thats 10 teams on 1 oval.

What the hell has happened to the pristine place called Joondalup, Leederville looks like a billiard table compared to it!
