Last Spot Beckoning

It looks highly likely we will finish last for the first time since 1992. I cant see us beating WCER next week in the 11am time slot that they are 2-0 from. We had 5 or 6 players limping around on the bench late in the Swans game and Nelson had a heavily strapped thigh/hammy. It is a tad cruel considering we have lost 4 games by under a goal and a couple of others by not much more :frowning:

I was hoping your prediction a while ago of us finishing 8th was going to be a bit off Whinnen .Looks like it might be- but going down instead of up! So the battle for the wooden spoon next week eh.Honestly it has been a totally frustrating season with so many close results not going our way but the answer is we simply have not been good enough.Yes inexperience, injuries and concentration lapses have all contributed but that no excuse for not showing up in some full games (not many fortunately),some halves and some quarters throughout the season. We have around 17 players from the 2022 colts grand final still at the club and some are playing league whilst 16 of the 22 who took the field yesterday are from our city or country zones.Solid base yes and it seems the club has made a conscious decision to go with youth. Two problems 1. It takes time to bear fruit and 2.within the next 2 to 3 years we will lose some of our veterans and have to start “ rebuilding “ again. The club is going to have to do some strong recruiting in the next few years to plug these holes- especially in defence and some taller forwards to help Keitel .At this point no need to throw the baby out with the bath water but if we want to stay relevant for the next few years some decisions on direction need to be made.

I knew exactly where we were at, Im sure the club has a better idea.

Jack Darling - Ouch!!

Quite an entertaining game, would be a while since two sides have kicked over 100 points

Good point. Hasnt happened this season.
Finally found one. Round 1 2021 Bassendean
Claremont 20-13-133, Swans 18-1- 109, so 3 and a half years since this happened

Even though it was an entertaining game the result was a real kick in the guts.I suppose there is some consolation in the performance of some of the younger guys and that falls in the category of getting good game time and experience for the future into them but the stark realisation is that we are now the worst team in the comp. yes I know P are currently bottom but I think they have improved from a playing sense and anyway have an extra game to prove they shouldn’t finish last.Well at least if we can stay competitive (which we have been in most games this season) there will be something to work with in the future.By the way Whinnen I hate you! Your accurate predictions for the season could be better served by sending me a PM with next weeks winning Lotto numbers.

Yes exactly. Was surprised when looking at this score-line. Usually when 1 team kicks 100 points or more in a match, the other team has scored between 40 and 80.
Noticed West Perth had 26 scoring shots which is average for their Away games but the Disposals Inside 50 count was below par for them. This should not have been an Away game for them! Perhaps the club should be looking at that. SADLY West Perth simply making up the numbers now and out of finals contention in the league.

Its been a long time since we won a spoon, its simply our turn, looks like the rezies will get one too, colts are going ok, so some youngsters coming through the system, we have had some narrow losses in the league side, losing skaife in the MSD was not on the radar pre season, he is a strong goal kicking forward that could of won us a few of those close games, we will never know of course, but on the flip side there is only one way for next season… hopefully up!

Fed, I dont think we deserve 10th spot, we have been better than that but further injuries have cruelled us at the back end which will thwart any chance of us winning another game possibly. Carter never returned after half way in the 3rd qtr so you can rule our only genuine ruckman out. On a positive note, Keitel was good again along with Damarte and Kane Bevan was outstanding once again. Patto is going to be a star if they keep playing him and I thought Riley Spring can turn into a solid defender next season.

Next season we will have the following players back full time at a minimum-

Hobley
Pierce
Julian
Alexandre
Johnson
Guadagnin
Foley

You guys have such gun midfielders that rack up the stats, the comps leading full forward and the best goal sneak in the WAFL. Would never have picked you as being so low on the ladder this year.

(Not that it displeases me, mind you) ?

Spot on DG.
There is a big reason why the vast majority follow football and not soccer in this country!

Good points Whinnen and 2025 season really starts now. The young guys have shown a fair bit at various stages and if we can get close to our best team on the park on a consistent basis in the future we are a strong side.Frustrating year yes but not without some upside.Interesting comment on Paterson- the big blokes take longer to mature and he’s still young but he needs to use these last few games to make a statement and use them as a springboard for next year.Really a lot of them do.Demarte is the heir apparent to Knott and Bevan is the next class midfielder to join West,Meadows and Nelson(although not too sure how long he is going to go on?MMM…. I take that back. He’s as hard as nails and is likely to go on for a fair while yet). Not all doom and gloom but a lot of hard work ahead. Here’s to hoping Keitel wins the Bernie Naylor to give us something to smile about.

Our woes continue, Carter has done his ACL :frowning:

Unbelievable! Bad luck for the guy as he was at least competing and giving us a chance at the centre bouncedowns .Guess it gives Riley Sprigg the opportunity to cement a first ruck position (which I think is his best spot). He’s put on a bit of muscle this season and should do a good job.Anyway let’s keep on plugging.
