This is big news if what I have been told is true. A friend in SA has heard from someone who works in the SANFL that Port Power will wind up the Magpies after the 2013 to cut down on costs and focus all their energies on one team instead of 2. Not sure how legit it is, but just another reason to dislike the AFL clubs and their attitude to local teams and competitions.
Also hard to see Power winning over any Magpies fans if they do wind up the SANFL club. I know which team I would rather barrack for,and it isnt the AFL side.
Sad news if true.
I’m not sure if the SANFL would allow for this though. They have thrown an awful lot of money at the AFL Power team, and I really don’t see any benefit for them in dispanding the Magpies, especially as they seem to be financially better on paper.
I think the AFL competition relys far to much on money. The clubs (with the exception of Collingwood), and making very small profits if any at all. Most seem to be making monster debts. Some state league clubs earning more than the AFL clubs that are in the black.
All good things come to an end, and I personally belive the AFL and clubs that play within are over extended.
The SANFL as licence holders would see this, and the worst thing they could possibly do is start killing off SANFL teams. It would be the same as the corner shop getting rid of their bread and milk lines.
problem is the two licenses held by the sanfl will probably be given back to the AFL. well at least the port one will because it ain’t worth a cracker. the crows on the other hand are worth money so the sanfl will benefit there. the sanfl has football park as backup if they want to sell off the stadium and land which is worth at least two hundred million so they could set up a smaller stadium if they wanted and have plenty of cash in reserve. the biggest problem I see is that the sanfl is currently run by demitriou puppets who bend over and touch their toes every time he comes to adelaide. once adelaide oval is finished leigh whicker is leaving the sanfl to help run it and in my eyes should have resigned as soon as this became apparent. as for port power or magpies, they have been a club that has been doing sneaky things since the crows entered the AFL and I for one couldn’t care less if they folded tomorrow
They’ve been sneaky bastards since long before the cows, so I share the same sentiment.
