Wow….looks like Lachie Neil will be requesting a transfer back to Freo. Big news that.
Yep just read that on News.com. At 28 and an injury riddled season at the Lions I wouldn’t be selling the farm to get him back. There is some high end talent available in our u/19’s and we will most likely get pick 6 at least for Cerra if he goes to Carlton. Rory Lobb might play a big part in a trade.
Logic tells us he is worth more thane fyfe
Totally agree with you DD, why in fudge would Freo give up what they get for Cerra and their pick 8 for a 28 going on 29 yr Lachie Neale. So many good WA boys on offer in the draft who could be 10 + Freo players in Van Rooyen, Erasmus etc. Neale is a class act, but not worth 2 first round picks…look at Kelly at WCE…WCE sold the farm to get him and TBH Kelly aint worth jack shit…well definitely not what WCE gave up to secure him…
Was driving to Claremont Oval to watch the Colts on Saturday listening to 91.3 Sport fm when Peter Sumich broke this rumour of Lachie Neale wanting to come back to WA as his wife is pregnant and wants to be close to family on the before the bounce show in the morning.
Then I had to laugh when last night (Sunday) on Ch7 and then in this morning’s West they apparently had the “exclusive” nearly 2 days after Sumo lol
Remember Lauchie running around for Swan Districts in 2012.As a Freo rookie before the Peel Alignment. In particular a second semi at Claremont oval. When he got the footy over 40 times that day.Taking on Blackwell,Foster,Mitchell and not giving up all day.
Knew he was going to be a star the young South Aussie..But wasn’t to know how good.Brownlow medal and a bucket full of Western derby’s Glendinning+ Allan medals..Great player who raises his game to a higher level in big matches…
Hope Freo can get a deal done with Brisbane.. Like Travis Boak at Port he can play as a mid till his mid 30’s.
Would be coming back for the stock standard home run dockers part time retirement/holiday tour after all picking up a heap of cash in Qld - suits him and his family down to the ground after all that’s what its all about isnt it?
I think he’s ideally suited to Freos needs. They will be looking over the next three to four years to be in premiership contention. Cerras going, can’t rely on Mundy to have a big influence, Fyfes next few seasons are hard to predict, he hasn’t been that great for a couple of seasons now and is usually buggered towards the business end, that just leaves Brayshaw and Serong - they’ll need a bit more midfield depth. Draft picks this year probably aren’t going to be ready quick enough to have an impact during that premiership window.

That’s about it Baz, today’s footballers are mainly mercenaries. I suppose you can’t blame them, they can set themselves up for life.
I wouldn’t be trading for him. Take the Cerra picks plus what we have and potentially head the the draft with 4 picks inside the top 30. Should be able to draft 1-2 key forwards, a mid and hopefully Bazzo from Swans.
Neale is 29 in May next year and I don’t see him lifting Fremantle from 10 wins this year to 15 next year.
Miss out on some of these WA guys then try and get them to our club in 3-4 years time. Stuff up two drafts.
I’m not liking what I’m reading and hearing from the biased noise from the east. No way I’d be giving anymore than one first round pick and that would be pick 8 not pick 6. He’s 29 next year FFS, surely that has to be factored in. We need the next Josh Kennedy and if we’re smart we can pick up the next Tim Kelly out of our own backyard on the cheap like Geelong did.
Bailey Rogers, Greg Clark? Hello? And we’ve got some super talent in our u/19’s this year. I’m playing hard ball with Lachie and Brisbane. I’m keeping pick 6 & 8 to draft the two best kids out of WA sorry. I’m not giving any of those picks up for a 29 year old no matter how good he is.
Lachie can stay there for another year after this draft and Brisbane will let him go for less.
Id be very hesitant about what to give up for him, he cant be a direct replacement for Cerra, he is an inside mid and its been made clear they need outside runners. If Fyfe comes into a midfield that already has Brayshaw and Serong, as the bulldogs did on the weekend they will get exposed for outside run at the stoppage.
It also then puts a big question mark on what to do with Mundy, he is a inside mid (yes he is clean when he breaks away but he doesnt run the wings all day) and at his age is he worth persisting as a forward that goes in for short bursts?
To me this is all in the court of Neale and Brisbane. If I was Peter Bell id go in there and say we offer our second round pick as a starting point and see who blinks first.
Geelong has done that beautifully for years, and then its upto Brisbane to hold him against his wishes, convince him to stay or give him what he wants and go to free agency to replace him.
Where Brisbane will be spewing is his contract was front loaded - he has been paid most of his 4 million in the first three years. He is probably only on 500K a year for the last 2 years of the deal
Yep..agree with both of you guys and the Pav says pretty much the same thing. He’s much closer to the end of his footy career than the beginning so definitely not worth two first round picks. He’s a quality player so if there’s an opportunity to pick him up without selling the farm as WCE did when they paid overs for Kelly then I’d say go for it but with some caution.
This was posted by Neale teammate Mitch Robertson on Sunday night.Removed by Twitter on Monday morning.
.,.,…,.,…,…
Lauchie Neale,we gave up heaps for you.Won a Brownlow medal.Made finals 3 years in a row. Then you just want to leave?? Get fucked.I’m sick of all this shit.First we got robbed last night (yes I said it) now this.Neale your an apsolute selfish tosser,we won’t miss you
Prick…
…
I think in Mitches post He’s making reference to the Western Bulldogs 79 free kicks in there last 3 games
That’s old news I think Robinson claimed his twitter account was hacked.
Didn’t Freo only get a first, second and forth round pick and lost Neale and a third rounder
not sure he worth more now he’s 3 years older and coming off a season injured, Would be a massive in but not if we give up to much.
shouldn’t Freo be targeting Clark from the cats, possibly Lipinski (now we have Bob and Boyd connection)
and get a couple of our 19 boys in and continue to build under Darcy, Brayshaw, Serong and all our other young players
Brisbane gave up pick 6,19,31,54 in the Neale trade. In a complex trade involving a number of clubs.
Johnathon Brown said today Brisbane will want pick 6+8 for Neale. And possibly pick 14 next year.Wow that’s a Tim Kelly premium price.
At that price he stays a lion.

Yep and age has to be a factor and his recruitment helped them play finals 3 years running and attractive other players.
I wouldn’t be offering anymore than pick pick 8 assuming we get pick 6 from Carlton. Maybe we get more than pick 6 from Carlton. Is Rory Lobb still wanting to go to the Gold Coast? Tell him it’s Brisbane and they get our second rounder.
Lobb and a second rounder for a contracted Brownlow medallist?
The thing about keeping a low draft pick or picks is you don’t know how they are going to turn out. If they trade they are getting Lachie Neale, it’s a gamble worth taking possibly if Freo truly believe they are going up the next few seasons
