John Duckworth and the Duckworth dynasty

Great interview on 91.3 by John. Certainly had a chequered career. Loved him at WP as always an entertaining player..
Had a lot of trouble finding a Pic of him in WP colours. Have a couple of video clips
and a few from when played in SA

The Duckworths have all been great servants to our club including Bill,John,Reagan,Simon and Brayden (what happened to him?)

Arthur John Duckworth (born 19 January 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL), West Perth in the West Australian National Football League (WANFL), and Central District in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He is the older brother of former Essendon footballer Billy Duckworth.

Born in Western Australia, Duckworth started his football career in Victoria with Fitzroy. He had been in Melbourne due to National Service training and after approaching Fitzroy found himself recruited for the 1970 season. Duckworth played 11 games that year but didn’t play again until 1974 as a result of both his military commitments and a stint in Vietnam. His last VFL season was in 1976 and the following year he returned to Western Australia where he joined West Perth. He played 44 games over two years, during which time he represented his state at interstate football.

In 1979 he was picked up by SANFL club Central District and in his debut season won the Magarey Medal, topped the club’s goalkicking and played interstate football for his second state. A ruptured kidney at the start of the 1980 season kept him out for most of the year and at the end of the season he decided to return to West Perth to finish his career. He played 42 games for Central District and finished with a total of 120 games for West Perth.

Brayden Duckworth is on the Swan Districts list - last I saw a couple of weeks ago anyway

I loved watching big Johnny - geez he had a big kick on him , a goer

And he will crack a league game soon if his ressies form continues

He was very impressive last week mate

How good is that youtube footage of Ducky winning the 1979 Magarey Medal ..and there was some great names on the leader boards at the different clubs as well including West Aussies- Max George, Geoff Gillies, Brian Adamson and that Hartfield fella played at Claremont in the 70’s.

I freaking well hated the guts of John Duckworth. Typical mongrel garlic muncher filthy bastard. Oh sorry , am I alone here…? Are we all nicey nicey nowadays?

hahaha - yeah well they were dark dark days for you guys back then … Brenton Hartfield BH
Geoff Gillies was good for South when he came back too - played some rippers

Big John was hard at it - I like that & miss it in modern pussy footy

hehe yeah Big John sure was. I miss that too mate. I hated everyone that didn’t play for Subi. Except maybe Ross Prunster and Maurice Rioli.

Was Joel Duckworth related to these guy’s ? He played for East Freo in Colts and was picked up by the Eagles in the late nineties early 00’s. Was a great junior footballer who never made it due to injuries. The Rock and I coached him in U/12’s at East Freo juniors.

Wasnt Gillies originally from Subi? Pretty sure…

Yeah I think so DG - either that or the real East Perth not this one

Thanks for that info SwanDog.. Yeh I thought Brayden was going places when he played WP Ressies. Glad to see he is doing well. Would love to see him in Anzac day clash. All the best to him.

Heres a classic pic from the past 5 Players who were formidable..for WPFC
I was ropable when Ducky left the club as he still had a lot in him. Went on to captain the Country side who won 1 or 2 ? Championships
