Is travel an issue?

We see a whole raft of AFL players calling it quits on their careers in 2017.Mitchell, Kelly, Hodge, Murphy, all from Melbourne based AFL clubs. All 300 game players.
Since the introduction of the Eagles to the VFL/AFL , WA has just one player who has played 300 games or more.
So doesn’t it seem strange that some people don’t see travel for the WA clubs as an issue for the longevity of players here in WA?
South Australia, who have a raft of 300 gamers, are just a five minute flight over the border to most venues.
Travel has no influence on career longevity!!!

Interesting plane trip of 5 minutes A/man. It would seem obvious that the length and frequency of long plane trips must have an impact on the longevity of players’ careers.

Just curious.

How much leg room is there in the 1st Class Sleepers in the Overlander?’

Just a figure of speech Swan.It would seem like five minutes compared to the flight the sides from the West have to do every second week.
It is a bit like flying to Kalgoorlie from Perth.Reach maximum height and are on the way down.

Clearly not to Richmond…lol

Bazza it clearly WAS for Richmond the previous time they had to travel.

Very funny Multi.By the way , how are your beloved Sydney Swans going!!!
For your information and be so smart, Richmond have traveled 5 times this year .Fremantle and West Coast will have traveled 11 times.
But I guess you are not that smart to work that out.

Bazza it clearly WAS for Richmond the previous time they had to travel.

Was it a 104 point issue?

Multi that was the fifth time Richmond have traveled this year.So you still think it is not an issue!!!

I believe Richmond scored fewer points than their opposition and as a consequence they were awarded 0 premiership points. Remarkably Fremantle received the same number of premiership points.

Travelling every second week is a huge hurdle for both WA AFL Clubs to manage, it also must affect longer term the longevity of players careers on what we know from the science of the effects on the body of air travel.
It makes the premierships that the Eags and the Lions have won even more meritorious.

Be curious to know the Flying lot of a Major League Baseballer who travels the whole season, barring injury and therefore staying home.

For example the Cubs.

I just wonder if they Bus it,with one or two Cities being within close proximity such as Milwaukee,or Cleveland when they Play - off in the World Series.Probably not!

Their Road destinations include St Louis,Cincinatti,Pittsburgh,Milwaukee,Los Angeles,San Francisco,Denver,Phoenix,New York,Miami,Atlanta,Washington and Philadelphia.

That’s just the National League Trips which covers most of the 81 games all teams play in the Road, unless there is a last game cancellation.

The Cubs didn’t have to go far to play the White Sox,venturing South across town to the new Commisky Park and there is one or two venues in the American League East they have to travel to.

And that’s for a Team in the Mid-West.What’s it like for a Team on the East,West or even South Coast? How about the Seattle Mariners?

Just a bit of food for thought.
