How many here knew that there is no reserve umpire now days.
- Four-Umpire System: Since the introduction of four field umpires, the previous, single dedicated reserve umpire is no longer standard.
- Emergency Procedures: In the event of an in-game injury to a field umpire, the match typically reverts to a three-umpire system rather than having a substitute run on.
Interesting post Anchor.
Maybe the AFL should revert to 3 and Cope with 2 if need be?
I have alwwyas believed that the four umpires was over kill and space clogging.Taking up players space. But it is not going to go back to three in our life time unless they do umpiring from video.
And even less chance of going back to two.
The AFL doing something that’s actually good for the game,is a rarity,so I won’t hold my breath on 2.
