History of East Fremantle representation

I was asked by Bob on Sat night if I would put this out there on various WAFL pages I am involved in so here it is, A message from Bob Uttienbrook:
The East Fremantle Football club would like to gather the details of any player who has represented East Fremantle at any level and from any era. It doesn’t matter whether they played 1 game of Under 19`s or 100 league games. Email Maureen at gathercole11@yahoo.com.au or ring Bob Uttienbrook on 0412 729 600. Thanks you. Your help would be much appreciated.

Bob is still very passionate about East Fremantle and it comes out whenever I chat with him down at the Gosnells football club where he is also a passionate volunteer

Maureen Gathercole was my year 7 school teacher.

We had some passionate conversations even back then

I still see her now at the derbies and we have a good old chat. Top lady she is.

I can remember one day at school before a derby arriving to class to see an EF flag blue tacked to the top of the blackboard. Felt sick all day and couldn’t concentrate. The next day I bought in my SF flag and tapped it around my desk. Her face had a wry grin but to her credit she never asked me to take it down.

I used to have a bet with my year 8 maths teacher each derby for a mars bar. I reckon I may still owe the bastard one or 2 as well.

Good memories. Funny out of all the teachers I had the ones I still keep in contact with or had a good relationship with were the ones who loved their sport and more so their WAFL footy back in the 80’s and 90’s.

Doggie, Paul Mountain taught at my primary school in 1979, geez the banter we had pre and post 79 GF was greatthe guy was top notch and even more so for continually selecting me in the centre at our annual lightning carnival at Perth Oval…even though I couldn’t get a touch all day

Great memories of that year…pity the WAFL is only a mere shadow these days feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to spend most of those golden youth years watching the WAFL when it meant something and more importantly WAS something

Tony Amoroso was my Science teacher at high school. A few of us use to knock around after school sometimes as well…squiding, blacky reach and he even took us to that prick of club he use to play at and play the pokie they once had in there. Still catch up with now and again.

My Year 7 teacher was a mrs gathercole. Our classroom was adorned with an east freo flag placed high on the back wall. south freo seemed to have the most supporters so it may have been a precaution less anyone should take offence to its omnipresence. in those days wafl footy seem to dominate the winter. Swan districts was a another popular club at my school. i can still remember the bickering. somehow think it is all very different nowadays.

well done to mrs gathercole - an east freo life member! and thank goodness for Bob Uttienbrook. maybe the junior footy clubs might have some info that could help. anyway i wish him luck in his endeavours.

rostrata ps?

It seems we are all of similar vintage, I have class photos of me with my WP jumper. We had some passionate WAFL teachers, mainly Souths and WP supporters, sadly enough, the biggest kid in school was responsible for me being a WP supporter, he was killed in a motorbike accident only 2 weeks ago !

I had Wayne Cormack twice … at Primary & then High School … lets just say I wasn’t that sad when Reevsey smashed him into the next millennium!

We had Jeff Cassidy come down a few times, it would have been a thrill for those players as they were like gods, I even got autographs and he was an Old Easts player !

We had Chris Mainwaring pushing the Eagles turn up at Roleystone District High, and no one wanted his autograph. Teachers were a little pissed, but we had David Ogg (SD) and Ray Bonyanich (ex-WP) as sports teachers. WAFL was still strong.

Went to Kelmscott after that and there were heaps of little Perth footies at lunch time. I think they all belonged to Sacko though

Wirra Birra Primary Mike ?

Haha yeah mate those were the days. Went through a few of those. I just brought the kids their first demons footys for Chrissy. Can’t wait now for the season to start so they can put the cricket bats away and start kicking them around

One my my twins has Swans everything, the other is keen on the Western Bulldogs because his mother is.

Wikipedia has a list of players who went on to VFL/AFL. A few I don’t remember.
