The final siren has sounded on the remarkable life of John Colgan, who passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon at age 94. From humble beginnings in Boulder, to WA State footballer and SFFC Hall of Famer, family man, SEC draftsman then engineer, respected member of the extended Colgan Clan and great mate to many. He had a cheeky sense of humour, didn’t let his blindness get in the way, was a football philosopher and a person of rare integrity. Will be missed and fondly remembered by all. Much loved husband of Dorothy (dec); father of Jay, Daryl and Glen; father-in-law to Ken, Meegan and Ali; “Blind” Grandad to Daniel, Jessica, Tristan, Lill, Celeste, Mackenzie and Tully; and Great Grandad to Orlando and Florence.

Cheers,I’ll leave it all up now,to put things in context.
Unfortunately I didn’t see John play and whilst he joined South after the first 3 Flags of 6 in The Golden Era,were already in the Trophy Cabinet,he no doubt would have played an important part in the '53 and '54 Premierships.
Those who saw him play would have enjoyed his abilities,speed and a cunning knowhow in what to do with the ball and where to deliver it,he recalled to his South Interviewer.
I daresay he would have formed a good combination in the middle with John Todd and Tony Parentich,but maybe that’s for others to recall,as it would be for his offfield contribution to The Red Vee.
Rest in Peace John Colgan.
A name I well recall from my very early days of footy.
