On a different note - and nothing to do with the result - has the umpiring so far across all games (I didn’t watch the Showdown) been as soft as Pascall Marshmallows?

The Eagles were ridiculously bad, looked completely disinterested, rattled, and really, really tired. I think Josh Kennedy may need a tap on the shoulder very soon if Simpson is up to it and Lord Nisbett allows it. I reckon it’s time for Allen to become the second key forward alongside Darling and for Bailey Williams to be given some game time.
And yes, I’ve watched the Dockers Brisbane game and the Eagles game and both were extremely over umpired and umpired very poorly. The mark not paid to Matt Taberner (at a crucial time) is one of the worst decisions you’ll ever see!

No 58 just a simple comparison of their performances and their oppositions, Freo’s performance was way better given their more fancied opposition, no need to get the hackles up.
Nah senior, not getting my hackles up. I just tend to think that if you lose, you lose and get no points. Another team puts in a better effort, but loses, they lose. Naturally, if it gets to the point where a couple of percent gets you in or out of the finals, it’s a different matter.
And here’s me thinking all Eagles can survive out of their nest. Obviously not.
I really like Simpson as a coach. he comes across authentic and he doesn’t talk in riddles like the ex Freo coach did. On this hub stuff though I really think he has projected himself as a whinger and the impact has been to give his players an easy excuse for the way they are playing right now. The Eagles are playing like a team who are not focussed and want to come home.
And things aren’t getting any easier going ahead. Port then Tigers. They could come out of the hub 1and 4.
Don’t agree with the whinging label. I just think he’s giving his opinion and speaking on behalf of his club and answering questions posed to him. He’d be saying the same thing if they were unbeaten probably. I’ve always thought coaches and officials of both WA clubs should be speaking out more.
Simpson is not a whinger. He’s one of the very few coaches worth listening to…even though he is a Victorian.
The problem is not about what has been said as it’s all very reasonable, it’s about who said it. Should not have been the coach, it should have been the club Pres/CEO/football manager, the coach is too close to the playing group who should be hanging on his every word, not so when they hear from the management who are more distant from the playing group. In the end it’s the VFL/AFL fighting with the WA Emperor about borders so the playing groups are in a land of uncertainty which is a massive distraction. The SA teams dont need the hub anymore as QLD and SA border is open so they can fifo but cant fifo to the festering Vic virus swamp. Need all the VIcco teams out of Vic and based somewhere that the borders are open or soon to be as even NSW is looking at closing it’s border with Vic. Can you imagine the manic bleating of unfairness from Eddies mob and the other Vic teams if they had to hub, it would be worth it’s weight in gold.
Emperor Mcgowan has said today that the state border wont be open until sometime in August i think so no use anyone commenting on that anymore.
Yeah, in retrospect, I guess Simmo was out of line. As for the Mexican teams leaving their virus infected state to go to Live in a hub, never. Dill will shut the season down before that happens.
Although having said that, Longmuir pretty much said the same as Simpson did after the Dockers game last night.
The media is not interested in hearing from the club president (who is that again)… unless they are a media savvy bigmouth like McGuire, Kennett or Koch.
