Geoff Valentine Departs

Worst kept secret in the WAFL, but best result for Joondy. having Coaches of his calibre in the WAFL can only improve the comp.
I bet he will be looking forward to their first game v Claremont.

Welcome back Harro, even tho he has been at the club for the last 12 months, its good have him back at the helm.

Usually when a club is on it’s knees financially it takes years of tin rattling and chook raffles and their onfield stocks and performance suffers for several years. Not this club.

Debt wiped like magic, get 2 delisted players back and another returning from the VFL, still able to recruit from other clubs. Unlucky a contracted coach leaves for an AFL aligned rival but then has a former premiership coach waiting and available. You’ve got to be the most blessed club in WAFL history. I was tempted to use another words.

Well the debt is still there at 200k paying 50k a year, but the club has become profitable now and will record another profit this year.
those 3 players you speak of come back to the club at zero transfer fees and are 1 point players, the Hutchy one is not a done deal yet.
And Harris is a premiership captain and coach for WP, was stiched up by a rival club, and has returned to the club he loves and love him.
like it or not WP are doing ok , run by WP people again.

The debt is not still there, it was $1.8 Million, not $200K, its gone.

The debt was eight hundred thousand dollars. The club has fought its way back by paying off loans issued by the WA Football Commission. How did we do that, simple, West Perth since 2019 can trade like any other WAFL club. Food / bar takings / gate takings all go to the West Perth Football Club. We owe the Commission 50 grand, that will be paid off over the next year. The club has money in the bank compatible to other WAFL clubs. More importantly, there are two WAFL clubs that are running on an oily rag and the commission is concerned of their survival. I gratefully thank the Subiaco member that donated a thousand dollars to help West Perth, I will gladly help a WAFL club with a grand if they are on the brink of collapse. How many of you keyboard kings will do that.

Winger how the club got themselves into trouble is still a mystery to me but they did and they took a much derided action, the derision was less than what my club suffered but ours was more deserved.

How you have got yourselves out of the mire or nearly out of is for me great for the WAFL competition and hopefully you can restore some faith from outside in the club.

To me the best thing to happen is that rather than having to channel nearly all of your bar and food takings into VW you are getting a the rewards for effort you should got from the outset of your move (which still think should have been to kingsway but … ).

Grump, sponsors contracts ended all at one time. Joondalup council, Landcorp, the Sunday Times, Channel Nine. The club had very little income / profit from local trade such as food and bar sales, most of the profit went to VW. The club relied on sponsors. Gate takings were down slightly but membership increased marginally. The club held on with money that the WAFC distributed. No major sponsors were signed so the club sank into self-appointed administration. The main thing now, is that the club can trade like all other wafl clubs. That’s all it was. No sponsors and Venues West raking in the profits. That’s all it was.

That great news that all the loans will be finalised next year mate but what happened to all the unsecured creditors who were promised 4 cents in the dollar by the administrators which turned into zero at days end? I’ll bet my bottom dollar they weren’t paid out.

BC the consequences of WP’s failure cannot not be forgotten and I am sure that people like Winger and Falcon would do everything in their power to ensure it doesn’t happen again and if possible the small folk who contributed were paid their due but … .

Without wanting to belabor the issue but who was responsible for allowing the sponsors etc all happening at once, that was really poor performance on a monumental proportion, where are they now, just so I can avoid investing in any venture they are associated with!
