Geelong Retirement Village?

Is Geelong becoming the destination for washed up, banged up has beens? FMD there seems to a never ending conveyer belt of rejects or has beens that end up at Geelong. Latest talk is 29/30 yr old Jack Stevens, who’s battled mental health issues, is on the way to Geelong because of his love of surfing.

Other has beens;
Luke Dahlhaus
Gary Rohan
Zac Smith
Zach Tuohy
Rhys Stanley
Jake Kolodjashnij
Lachie Henderson

I won’t name Gary Ablett, Danger and Scott Selwood for obvious reasons but that looks like Dads Army to me.

perhaps the AFL could let them play a Seniors series of finals there as it may get the Geriatrics out of bed for the weekend.
I suppose getting washed up, banged up has beens isn’t the reason they are on top of the ladder.
Fremantle has the habit of getting younger washed up. banged up players.

Interesting, not so sure they are all has beens for mine -
Tuohy recruited when 26 for the start of the 2016 - certainly would have preferred he stayed at Carlton
Henderson the same in age when recruited also in 2016
Dahlhaus 26 when traded into Geelong last year - a premiership player at the Bulldogs who has played most if not all games this year
Garry Rohan only 28 when traded there
Smith 26 when traded there
Stanley 24 when traded there in 2014
As for Kolodjashnij, he was taken with pick 41 in the 2013 draft at age 18, so maybe he is not any good but at the time of drafting I hope for the kids sake he wasn’t a washed up has been at 18.

Not all so bad, Dahlhaus in particular.

My point is they seem to attract a lot of very talented players from other Melbourne clubs that for whatever reason end up disgruntled and looking for a new home and I find it remarkable how many of these types of players seem to want to go to Geelong? What is the attraction? I can’t work it out.

Ok,so they are talented and not washed up, banged up has been’s.

Would have Tuohy before Selwood, both have had injuries although Selwood has been there since 2016 for 25 odd games and Tuohy at Geelong since 2017 for 40 plus games

Its just like Freo. Out of the City, near the water. BUT no CRAP

DD Geelong the town itself is a bit of a shithole but it is close to all the beach towns, holiday spots that a lot of the surfers use over there in Vic like Torquay, Bells Beach, Jan Juc, Lorne etc. That may be the attraction?
Melbourne itself has no ‘real’ beaches being on Port Phillip Bay and it is a 2 hour drive to those surf locations in their gridlocked traffic whereas Geelong is not far at all from them.

On the money BH, the town is ordinary but the region is terrific with spectacular coastline and some of the best breaks in the world.
I dont get where the washed up idea comes from given they sit top of the table. Freo supporters would swap squads in a heartbeat, but then they’d need to swap coaches as well or Lyon would destroy them with 10 year old tactics and hopeless injury management.

It would be an interesting exercise for someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of footy like BH or a good memory on all things Freo like DD to draw up a list of players who’ve come and then been spat out by Freo under Lyon and went on to other clubs. I can think of a few like Sam Collins, Micky Barlow, De Boer, Menegola, Sutcliffe, Zac Clarke, Josh Deluca and maybe include Lachie Neale in that list but reckon there’d be heaps more.

Chris Mayne (Coll), Hayden Crozier (Dogs), Brandon Matera (Suns) all wanted out Colin Sylvia was peed off.

All clubs bring players in from other clubs but my point was it seems a lot of lets say “mature aged” players seem to find their way to Geelong.

I see where you’re coming from DD. Their mature age and cast off players have certainly kept them in the hunt for a flag and make them a dangerous side. However, when was their last flag…2011 I think. Rather than drop back and go to the well, Scott may be extending his tenure in any way he can.

Hawthorn have also done this to perfection. Lake from Dogs, Burgoyne from Port, McEvoy from Saints Mitchell from Swans, O’Meara from Suns are just a tip on the iceberg. Pies are also good at it.. Perhaps players want success.

As usual you completely miss the point as usual there is always a Fremantle angle to your posts.

Dads Army beaten by a young Brisbane side?

Hey DD, I failed to find where I mentioned Fremantle in my reply unless the word was SUCCESS.
Brisbane are like Geelong with “has beens” as Robinson, Christensen, Lyon, McCarthy, Adams, Hodge joined. Only Neale & Cameron were not has beens. They wanted SUCCESS (oops a Freo word)

Again in your comparison you miss the point so I’m not going to argue with you.
