Freo v Richmond

Big game this one coming off a couple of losses, good to see Jack Hannath making his debut but unlucky for Tanner Smith to do a hammy so early in his career after making his debut. Hope that’s not a sign of things to come for him injury wise. He’s quick for his size and has good hands.

Ibbotson back in for Suban. Ibbo gives us a slightly bigger body down back which I think we are missing since McPhee retired. Be interesting to see how Lyon uses McPharlin tonight and who plays on Riewoldt? I hope we don’t get too pre occupied with locking it in our forward line tonight, Richmond have the ball winners and the pace to hurt us if they break out of the press similar to what Essendon did to us. I think I’d keep McPharlin deep down back and perhaps Spurr as well.

That loss to essendon must surely be at the back of their minds. And with no pavlich. Could be 3 losses in a row coming up for freo.

One thing is for sure,we can’t afford another slow start like last week.We have to get away and kick a few before they realise the game is under way.
Sad that Tanner Smith has done a hammy.Though beaten last week he showed plenty.Still needs to bulk up a bit more. But has the knowledge of where to go and find the ball and the contest.
Hannath will be an asset as well.He is bigger and stronger then Tanner. Will be a strong aid for Griffen I am sure.
I think we will win and win by about 25 points.
Glad to see McPharlin back to add strength to our back line.As you said DD, Ibbotson will add a bit more height to our defence as well.
I am not sure where Nick Suban sit in the whole picture of the side going forward after last week.He looked badly out of touch and down on from.Couldn’t find the ball even if he had been in the Sherrin factory.Very unlike Nick to play that badly. He will have to redeem himself with big performances to regain Lyons confidence in him.

Who do you fancy tonight anchorman? I had money on the dockers 2 weeks ago, and I have doubled up on the dockers to beat the tig’s. I am starting to get a little nervous because freo always seems a little clueless - is my money safe?

yer money is indeed safe. Tiges wont like the intesity of Lyons game style

When will goal umpires learn to get into the correct positions? Vickery kicked a goal only to hit the umps leg, not good enough

The Tigers were pretty stiff on that one. They should have at least reviewed it, probably didn’t go over the line but at least worth a look. Also should Hill have been pinged for deliberately walking the ball over the line for a point? Very exciting game, was frustrating watching both teams botching opportunities in the last quarter though. Richmond need to have a good hard look at Riewoldt and his value to their team. Mcpharlin gave him a real touch up but he wasn’t really competing then gestures his team mates when they don’t deliver it on a plate to him. A dead set Primma Donna.

Most 50/50 go the way off the home team here, no arguing just the way it is. Why though after WINNING, and fans should be elated, do they BOO the umpires?? FFS ya had a good run with em anyway. I DONT UNDERSTAND

Razor Ray was bloody horrible Unka, it was as much about the ones they didn’t call. Our forwards got manhandled and got little protection from the umps. There is not way you can call that a goal that hit the ump. Hardwick is a whinger and doesn’t set a good example for his players. I’ve seen every angle on that play and 3 things for me are 1. Vickery could have and should have marked it, 2. at best it hit the line when it first landed and 3. it hit the inside of the umps left leg so if he wasn’t standing there it would have hit the post.

The Richmond faithful should be questioning Hardwick’s tactics, I would have been spewing if it was us that kicked the goal to be 5 points up and not send at least 2 or 3 players back and leave 3 or 4 forward.

We are in dire trouble injury wise now with Kepler most likely out for 12 months unless he opts for Lars, might be the right option at this stage of his career. Sandi is still a long way away so the player that becomes important to us right now is Zac Clarke. He will most likely need a run or two in the WAFL but we might not have that luxury. He really needs to step up now, he’s been around long enough. I would be using him as trade bait at the end of the season.

Great game from Nick Suban. I felt sorry for him being subbed out so early last week and he could not have responded any better. Kepler getting injured was a blessing in disguise for him, i have him in our best 3 or 4 players.

So much fumbling by our boys last night, we need to get a lot cleaner and not panic. Had Mayne not fumbled that last play in our forward line he could have iced it right there, instead we nearly lost it.

Therein is the anomally Johhno, goto the tiges site and thet are fuming about the homw town decisions…BOTH supporters cant be right. I was a neutral and reckon it went 60/40 your way…as i said no biggie, its the norm at “home” games. Just thougt fans would have focussed thier JOY at winning rather than negatively boo the umps??

Unka did you also notice a lot of Freo fans standing and clapping the Richmond players off the ground? I thought Fremantle fans showed great sportsmanship demonstrating they appreciate it could have gone either way and Richmond provided a great contest. It wasn’t Richmond fans, they were at the other end of the ground.

Ah so you weren’t there? Well i sit on the outer flank, Subiaco end and the Freo faithful gave Richmond a standing ovation as they walked off into their tunnel.

Who is your AFL team Unka? Eagles? Say no more if it is, didn’t they boo or abuse an opposition player last year who came off on a stretcher?

Wrong again Johnno (bit like yer call on the recent state elction)Im a Cats man. As i say al you could hear on the T were BOOS, thats the fact. Maybe in the outer it was different, who knows, ya can only hear what ya hear.

Well I guess you had to be there Unka. The Cats don’t lose too many home games but I am sure when they do the umps don’t get clapped off the ground. Perhaps one of the reasons the Boo’s might come across a little louder over here is the crowds are predominantly home town crowds with little more than a thousand or so opposition supporters. In Melbourne no doubt the crowds are a little more even when the Melbourne teams face each other.

<ypoint Johnno is i dont recall many teams BOOING the umps off AFTER THEY WIN!!

According to the AFL he was in the correct position.
Nobody could say for sure if the ball had passed completely over the white line.If it hadn’t then then correct call was made. Not evn a revue would have convinced any on that it was a goal. The rule states that if the ball hits the umpire and stays in play then it is play on.A correct decision was made.

Never been to an Eagles game then Unka.I can remember them booing Trent Croad when he played against them afte he returned to Hawthorn,Work that one out.

The goal ump should not of been in a position where the ball could hit him..he obstructed a certain goal, if the ball didn’t hit him it would of cleared the goal post quite clearly therefore a goal would of been scored, totally agreed with hardwick.

Terror he was in the CORRECT position according to the AFL guide lines. How do you know it was a certain goal!!!Do you have extra special vision? The way I saw it was that it was going to hit the post.So you guess and mine make no difference. At the time the correct call was made.Maybe it should have gone for revue, but would still have been inconclusive,so the behind would still stand.
