because there werent any filters on FG it got killed by spam VG despite the valiant efforts of the mods to clear it up…
Footygoss died because of lack of interest by the owners and sheer bloody mindedness in not handing it over to people who really cared about it.
I still cannot believe how they could have let it die.
Who owned Footygoss Ooslumbird?
Footygoss gets turned on every so often and you can connect to it, however the forum always seems to be full of spam still.
Anyone else noticed this too?
This site was put up in haste during the last couple of days of Footygoss.
Mike.
This site is better than Footygoss in my opinion. Apart from the lack of spam, there is much less personal abuse by the participants and more banter and footy chat. Thanks to Mike and George for providing us with a great outlet for our opinions this year. Long may it continue
Footygoss was owned by several people, one of whom was a non-football person who did his best to run the site over it’s existence. He was a genuine bloke but was hampered by a reluctance of the others to spend money on software needed to combat the ever-increasing spam.
When his business interests increased, it was only natural that the website, which as Mike would know can hardly be described as a money making venture, had to be discarded for the bloke’s bread and butter occupation. He did do his best, and I thank him for that and understand his position.
I know he continued to work on behalf of all the footy fans of Footygoss but when he left the building that was the end of the penny section. I tried to contact the remaining owners of the site but it was like a brick wall, and not having the resources or technical ability to do much anyway, I had no choice but to let the Footygoss faithful know the end was nigh.
It’s still difficult to fathom how people could just let the site die when they were well aware of the many who relied on it and were eager to take it over.
One door closes and another opens. Thanks to Ozfooty WA football will remain on the internet and so many great posters will continue to be read.
A few things I wasn’t aware of there… It was a great site, and used to enjoy just reading and posting once in a blue moon.
When the end was near, I suggested to George if no one was able to take on Footygoss, then something needed to be done, and done fast.
With limited skills I did some reading and found some Open Source software that would drive a new website. The site was to be community driven - Ie no advertising (no income).
Apart from the moderators and contributors time, the cost of running this site is $18, which is not worth warranting anoying adverts. Its not here for the money.
Enjoy.
Mike.
Not sure how many of the MODS from the goss came over or whether ir’s because lots of people never made the change but this site is certainly a lot better for abuse of fellow members (ie less of it)
In most ways this site is very similar to Goss, the big difference is the fact that this site provides for those in the Ams and the womens football.
There is still the same ability here to have your say on the AFL and WAFl as per Goss.
As for those who did not come over to some it was a blessing. But me thinks that many here came from Goss but with different names.I think you only have to read the posts to see this.
But as has been said to Mike and George, well done to get this site up and running, and running well, with out a lot of hassles member wise.
A good summation of what happened Oos as I think you were the closest to what was going on.Very sad that it closed but as you said,"one door…
Cheers for that Oos
cheers lads
Don’t forget oos fantastic contributions in the form of the Memory Lane articles. We have been able to provide them with a new home for all to enjoy.
Also his tipping comp!
Someone should get it up and running again. It was a good site

And what’s your problem with Ozfooty? A lot of people are absolute hypocrites reading on this 10 year old topic how it is better controlled by the mods and free of spam yet many have dropped off and spat the dummy because they don’t like who took it over and continually attack the owner/moderator.
Yet this owner rescued this site from destruction as Mike and George quickly lost interest I believe because of the constant bitching and legal threats. This site was broken as it wasn’t kept up to date which costs money and considerable time to do.
It cost me plenty to fix and I didn’t acquire this site for nothing. Yet I’ve had to put up with so much bullshit by low life scumbags that have tried their best to drag me down. They picked on the wrong dog. This one bites back.
Because I don’t have the skills to maintain a site like this without expert assistance I sold it to some people who do. If you think it’s a piece of piss to build a site like this then go ahead and waste your time.
If you want to see this forum survive and thrive then pick up your bottom lip and support it. I have expanded it and improved it. It’s not perfect that’s another reason I sold it. Got frustrated with upgrades that meant we couldn’t use private messages. That’s why I have to speak out and not in private to those who step out of line. Reported this private message feature failure after a software upgrade but they weren’t interested.
Also reported how the quote function was fucked after the software upgrade. Again they didn’t provide a solution. Appreciate what you’ve got and support it or it may not survive. It’s out of my hands.
I could be wrong M83, the interest may not be there to start fg again? Was sad to see how the site deteriorated and ended it’s days. I’m sure if the site owner/s was on top of things, the situation would be different. Having said that the ownership did experience difficulties. Even the Wafl club websites let their forums go! This site came along and thus far has been good.

WAG why would there be interested in starting FG again when this forum replaced it? Would you support it? Bare in mind here we are allowing a discussion about revitalising or creating a forum that would be in opposition to this one which replaced a forum that died.
How much longer do you think OFA should allow such a discussion that is clearly an insult to Ozfooty?
