Interestingly, The Sydney Swans reserves were defeated in the NEAFL (eastern conference) Grand Final by The Queanbeyan Tigers. Sydney has not been listed as a contender for the Foxtel Cup.
Brisbane Lions won the NEAFL Grand Final (northern conference), yet both NT Thunder and Southport Sharks have been included.
Will this mean East Perth or Peel will never get a go?
The 2013 Foxtel Cup will be the third season of the competition.
Yes from my understanding the format has been altered from that of the first two years of the competition by cutting the number of teams from 16 down to 10.
Apparently all matches to be held Tuesday nights as stand alone games.
The prizemoney on offer will also be increased.
Foxtel Cup competition will begin in March of 2013 and conclude with the Grand Final in August 2013.
interesting that norwood are playing this year considering they haven’t wanted to since the start. if you want to watch boring football then watch them. the coach nathan bassett would have to be the most defensive in state league footy. but then he wants a gig in the AFL so that doesn’t surprise me.
There’s been plenty of “host” VFL teams that have competed. Its the “standalone” AFL reserve sides thats have been kept away from the foxtel cup for whatever reason.
