So according to JT they still intend to resume with a WAFL reserves team in 2021 which is a big big surprise. What is not a surprise is they want a substantial discount on the $450,000 license fee to field a team. Why should they get a discount? If normal crowds resume next year and list sizes and soft cap is reduced they will make a substantial profit.
This throws a spanner in the works. If Peel want to end their alignment then will we have an 11 team comp?
Tell WC to go forth and multiply, why do they deserve a discount, on what grounds? If they want to play in our comp they can bloody well pay for it. They still have mountains of cash stashed away. If WC do resume their ressies then it’s almost guaranteed Peel will stay slaves to Freo and we keep the 10 team comp, 2 rounds of 9 games.
Don’t think the Eagles should have a substantial discount for the right to play in a league that helps to feed them. 450k out of 40 plus mil, plus assets isn’t a big ask.
Spot on AR.
Have a look at the Eagles prospectus from their inauguration back then…it would seem it is not only the Eagles who have seemingly forgotten that but the muppets at the WAFC who own this mob as well!
BH: thanks bease: one day the powers that be whose ‘job’ it is to run the game will actually deny that the the club was set up to subsidise the WA-FL; it is unlikely that the clubs would have voted as they did back then, if they thought they were losing access to all of their players all of the time.
Dont think that comes into it, they have always wanted their leftovers playing together in one team under their control. The WAFL is the only place that can be accommodated, so they need to pay their way. They are still a massively financial organisation even after C19, they are just penny pinching. The WAFC and the clubs need to hold fast on this, the WAFC are supposed to be their owners, so it’s time they showed some balls and put them in their place… Dreamin’ I know
I struggle to see how West Coast can field a Reserves side in the WAFL next season.
AFL lists are likely to be reduced to around 38 and the potential move to multiple games away in mini-hubs will require more of the squad to travel.
Of the 38, take 22 players plus 6-8 extras only leaves 8-10 players for the WAFL team. Take out injuries you’re not left with much at all.
Why would West Coast want to fund a team so that a handful of 3rd tier players can have a kick together with 17-20 top up player?
I think you’re right TT, the Eagles will probably distribute their spare players amongst the WAFL clubs. If they are WA players they will go to their club of origin and interstate players will be spread out according to where teams finished on the ladder last season ( bottom teams get first pick) Thats of course assuming that the AFL don’t ban the players from participating in 2nd tier competitions like they did in 2020.
What will be interesting to see is what happens to Dockers players in 2022 when their alignment agreement with Peel terminates.
How about WAFL clubs vote no. This is getting beyond a fckn joke. This is the WAFL and an AFL club is tossing up whether they will or will not play in our comp next year. It is October. They wanted in in 2019, we let them in. They wanted out in 2020, no worries. They might want in next year, might not. We’ll let you know.
This is not acceptable. Dear WCE, just fck off, give us the money to which we are fckn entitled and LEAVE US ALONE!!!

They should be forced to pay each WAFL club double the current amount just for farking them around and making a mockery of our 135 year old competition with all of this bullshit uncertainty of will they have a team or not???!!!
Boys in an ideal world where the WAFC actually had the balls to ran things in a professional manner and not the 2 AFL teams they own, they would demand that WC make a decision within a realistic time frame as the real WAFL teams are already in the process of recruiting and assembling their team lists and need to know who and how many AFL leftovers each team may be forced to accommodate, or alternatively, if WC will field their own reserves team.
But we all know that’s just cloud fairy land thinking. They are too obsessed and depressed by the fact they wont get their annual tax payer funded AFL GF junkets.
Is anyone else just so bored with the eagles and how they make us stress all the time about what they want to do to our comp and our fixtures and our squads like their story is the only fckn story that matters or has ever mattered in wa that you just wish they’d like relocate to Tasmania or somewhere.
STT, whose gonna mow your lawns, do all your DIY and pay your electricity bills if your rich neighbours relocate to Tassie?
Seriously though I totally agree with you, but sadly WCE have been allowed to do what they want, unchecked for way too long…no such thing as WA football in their eyes…only WCE football sadly.
