IMHO, I cannot see the Essendon players being dealt with harshly en masse considering they were coerced in this matter and given the ridiculous situation that the AFL drug policy allows players with 2 strikes to self dob the use of recreational drugs and so avoid a 3rd strike.
The harsh penalties should be aimed at the club as a whole and the individuals in the football department who are responsible for the debacle.
Banning their players and recruiting from state leagues would be a nonsense.
Make no mistake, the AFL will not suspend the club because it will cost them big $$. Esserden will get a smack around the ears, but fat Andy and Batman will be sitting in a corner working out what they will do if the club is proven to be bringing the league into disrepute - “what can we do to get them off Batman”?. As much as I hate esserden, this is a tragic event. Football itself could take a big hit here. With sponsorship money hard to get, this type of media is the last thing needed. Anyone who thinks every AFL dollar lost will go to the WAFL is deluding themselves.
Its more what the ASADA decides 58, once it involves illegal drugs that the “athletes” took ( if it did) there is NOTHING essendon can do about it. Think about how Lance got stripped of his titles, the usada over rode all and sundry there too…thats why i think bith the AFL and Essendon are shyting emselves, its outta thier “controlled bubble”
Dingo, if you know anything about Peptides you will know that they dont increase the chances of soft tissue injury. This was just a by product of their training load.
Heads need to roll, 4 amateur rugby league players were banned from 2-4 years in Queensland last year that took the stuff.
Bigger issue now is that the AFL have admitted to suspending players last year when they took illegal drugs and passed them off as ‘general soreness’. Anyone remember any high profile names missing weeks with general soreness last year?
[/quote]
When did the AFL admit this shiz I must have missed that?
Did a certain no.23 from the Hawks not miss about 6 games with “general soreness” last year??
Yep and McGowan for PM of Western Australia!
I reckon this whole scandal is mint and i only hope it gets bigger and bigger for the AFL!! no wonder Adrian Anderson shot through haha
Yeah mate that Anderson was wholly responsible for the AFL’s pathetic drugs policy & now it has come home to roost with this latest scandal ..fair dinkum they have a whole League of druggies running around in that comp because they made it all too easy to get away with ..even the WAFL has a tougher drugs policy than the supposed ‘top league’!!
- Port power salary cap
- Melbourne tanking
- Drug summit
- And NOW Essendon dopping Scandal
I thought it come in three’s but no
The AFL is now in disrepute
Maybe we will get people going back to the WAFL, SANFL and VFL
Let’s hope this is the downfall of the AFL, and get back to real Aussie Rules
My sentiments exactly!!
Look what happen to Swans Travis Casserly… Rubbed for two years, and the AFL endorsed the ban as he was looking for a spot with Richmond.
If as being reported in the media is true, and the AFL do not need to make it public that a player has been taking drugs, to only give them a rest with an excuse, then they should be ashamed of themselves.
Even if Essendon are disqualified by the anti dopping mob, the AFL will only elevate VFL club Bendigo Bombers for a season or two with clean Essendon players on the list - worst case! It will still be the Bombers.
Lets face it, nothing will happen - its the AFL.
Mike.
Persoanlly I hope they throw the book at them, Essendon have always been a bunch of wankers and James Hird is the most up himself tosser in the game, what a classic it would be to see the so called golden boy in the slammer.
Im not so sure… as i said it “may” well be out of the AFL’s hands. Sure they are powerful BUT im not sure if even they can over rule national/international drug laws if it comes to that. Perhaps i am drawing a long bow, but look what the outcome of a “sporting hero” in Armstrong. No stone was left unturened in the end, and im sure their was pressure to bear to leave him (Armstron) with some dignity, given his profile. The eyes of the world is now very very focussed on any sort of drug cheating…bad time to be caught.
And Cass was only treating a cold!!
FFS now its come out that wingnut Hird has been involved in his playing days with a convicted drug trafficker . He may have been a champion player and the Essendon golden boy but at the moment he is a liar and has shite all over him . Good luck wingnut i reckon you will need it , the afl should hang these cheating dogs good and proper - Hird included , you cant hide behind the golden boy image anymore Jimmy boy … BUSTED BOY .
Seems like a load of sour grapes going on here Paul.Look back at the Eagles past history. And I don’t mean the Benny affair.Look further back and see that they weren’t squeaky clean way back when.
No sour grapes mate i dont even follow the Eagles , Essendon were quick to jump on the wagon in regards to the Eagles and now look at the cheats .Also sounds like the Bombers may also not have been squeaky clean way back when . Your a Dorker of cause you will put sh1t on the Eagles .
the only people that got stuck into the Eagles were the media and fans of other clubs..every other AFL club kept their mouth shut and said thank god its not us as they knew theat it could happen to them at some stage, since then plenty of clubs have had a scandal of some sort..
Of course they all have scandals they wish they could hide. But lets not forget that Paul seems to have a selective memory about his club.
It raised eye brows all over Australia and this was before the drug policy was in in the AFL.
The fitness guru had a history of illegal drugs.
Just a question to all.If the AFL drugs policy was working, wouldn’t it stand to reason that there would have been an unusually high number of positive drug tests coming from the Bombers!!Would the alarm bells be ringing!!
I will say it again anchor , i do realise you Docker supporters are not that bright so i will be easy on you - i dont follow the Eagles one bit .

Must have been an archer in a previous life, long bow being drawn…
He was appointed as a dietician to Hird and others at the club, as he was to Woewodin in 2000. Should we ring Shane up and ask for the 2000 Brownlow back because he followed his diet?
I expected better from you Anchorman.
Just because someone goes for the Eagles, myself included, doesn’t mean we are only wanting another club to face the music on drug charges so we can defer attention away from our club.
It is safe to say that no club is safe when it comes to skirting on the edge of the law, judging by the announcement from the Australain Crime Commission.
The AFL and other major codes need to go back to sqaure one with this issue. Almost over the AFL now.
