Doc on Extra Duty

In yesterdays Futures game before the league, one of the South West Academy boys got hurt. The trainers quickly called for a stretcher but seemed reluctant to move him. One of the trainers then ran to the Swans rooms and out came Doc Blakely to assist.

Doc was with him for about 10 minutes before they got him on a stretcher, with Doc holding his head still to avoid any movement as they took him from the ground. Hope the young fella is okay.

Doc being there was a good thing but what if he wasn’t. Shouldn’t there have been a head trainer to oversee what was happening or what about the club doctors for Swans and the Eagles. This happened just over an hour before the league game.

Well done to the Doc, A fantastic bloke.

I saw the ambulance outside the ground as I was walking in. Hopefully the young man is OK. Lucky that Doc was there. The question you raise is a very pertinent one. Probably shouldnt have to rely on someone being there who is skilled enough to provide the care required. Well done though to the Doc

Surely Swans have a proper physic and S&C at every game who have proper first aid certs for these types of issues or was the issue worse than just the usual first aid?

We may not know the answer but only AFL clubs can afford a doctor on hand every game.
