No changes other than Snadden dropped which was predictable. Interesting to see if Schofield gets up. I can’t see a hammy coming good after a one week lay off but you never know I guess. I think we’ll get over the line but only just. Subi by 2 goals.
Update. Schofield not selected.

BC, a mate of mine spoke to Taj after last weeks game and he said he was likely to play, but if we had beaten Freo, he would have had another week off, given the do or die situation, we need to roll the dice. He may not play as many minutes in the mids, maybe on a wing or HF flank where his elite delivery can help the forwards.
Forecast for tomorrow is fine and 22 light winds early then stronger in the early arvo then lightening off later.
Reserves were up for the challenge today. The good news is that vanirsen, Hitchcock and ash looked ready to step up next week if required. I’m not confident we can beat Claremont.
Really good win today as I thought we’d just about blown it at 3/4 time due to inaccuracy in front of goals. The last quarter effort was huge and showed we can run games out which we haven’t done for the last few weeks.
For mine, the win was anchored by our backline. Savigni, Dewar, Heal, Locks, Stains were all superb. To restrict Claremont to 9 scoring shots from 33 inside 50s was critical and kept us with our noses in front even though we struggled to kick goals.
I’m not sure if there’s a genuine dislike for Jye Bolton as I thought we overdid the physical stuff but I guess it worked as he was restricted to 13 possessions. Special mentions for Tholstrup and Alone who were very effective through the middle and Borchet worked his way in as the game went on and great to see Soks hit the scoreboard. We’re still bombing it in far too much and need to do more work on entering forward 50.
Giro and Liam Hickmott had fantastic games and both were right up there for BOG. FART next week which I think we can win as we probably should have beaten them last week but we had a bad 3rd quarter which cost us dearly. No injuries or reports that I’m aware of so could go in unchanged if Schofield doesn’t get up.
Terrific win and congrats to all involved but there’s still some hurdles to get over. Go Subi.
Brilliant effort, but what can we do about the accuracy this late into the season? It seemed to me Borch & Sokol were getting in each others way. In the last they went more one up & one down. Golding hopefully will kick 4.0 next outing instead of 0.4. Add Schofield’s goal kicking and we might straighten up. Need a big lead early on then try to hold on.
The defenders were superb, Savigni is next level and playing with confidence.
Spot on regarding Savigni Frothy. At 21 years of age, surely he’s being looked at by AFL scouts. I’d hate to lose him but reckon he deserves a crack at the next level.
Been saying that about Savigni for a year at least. A bit short perhaps . But what a goer.
Alone is the pace we need. He can improve further, imo.
Borchett has to compete in the air like he did in the last. That was great. He and sokal are getting outmarked way too often. It’s no point kicking high to sokal. Hes too short. It has to be in front of him. That leaves kenterfield to compete in the air, but he’s not getting to the right spots. Do we use him deeper? Clark can play a role there, as well. We’ve got to get that sorted. Maybe we need to go to Golding more. He’s a better contested mark. Something has to change.
Claremont showed us how to kick goals in the third with pace and run. I thought we were going to get run over again.
Great to see some free kicks paid against Claremont today after last weeks absolute disgrace on the WAFL. Will be with you all the way Subi and good luck. Hope I’m welcomed in amongst you at the next two games to give you some support.

I watched your game on tv last week Royal and agree, you were robbed by some very lopsided umpiring. They must have got taken to task during the week as I thought we got a pretty good rub from them today for the most part which is unusual for Subi.
It was clear the umpires had some sort of meeting at 1/4 time as they totally changed the way they officiated. I would say I’ve never seen so many 50m penalties in a game.
Congrats on the win boys, sets up a 2nd go for Subi v Freo Thunder. Poor ole Zac Clarke definitely will be feeling the pump. Peel ruck duo first up, then Eastland, and now the Peel ruck duo again, all in the space of 3 weeks. Big ask for the big fella, but he has had a fantastic season. The off season probably can’t come quick enough for Clarke.
That was a shellacking in every aspect but the score which flattered Claremont. 28 scoring shots to 9, brilliant effort by the defence, but let down by horrendous kicking at goal, maybe a bit unlucky with 4 posters but so many gettable goals missed. The game should have been done and dusted by halftime. Cl did well to come back in the 3rd but both teams had 5 shots at goal, Cl 5 straight we got 2.3, they looked spent in the last and didn’t fire a shot. Very physical and often spiteful game where both teams gave as good as they got, but you need to strangle teams like CL who will cut you up if you give them any space and time to get their open running game going which they did to a certain extent in the 3rd. Really got into Boltons and Rogers faces with them only getting a combined 29 disposals, The ruck contest was a beauty Eastland shaded Zac in the hitouts, must have watched what Reidy did the week before, as he continually blocked Clarke at the throw ups. Both gave away a lot of frees with holding and pushing, in the end rated pretty even given Zac bagged a goal and disposals were almost even. Eastland is a gun and should be playing at the next level.
If we can straighten up our goal kicking, which cost us dearly v Freo in the Qual final, we can give ourselves a chance next week, but a very big ask to travel down to their shitpile given we were bashing it out all yesterday arvo while half the Peelmantle team was in full AFL recover mode down at Cockburn. We go in as massive underdogs with no pressure or expectations, that is all on Peelmantle.
Agree with your summation SS, if Subi had kicked straight it would have been a 10 goal + thrashing.
I really thought Claremont would have been desperate to get to the big dance given their defeat last year but they showed absolutely nothing and their finals record in the past decade is starting to look pretty ordinary.
As you said you guys have nothing to lose next week
Nice summary SS. FART had a very tough and physical game against East Freo too but being full time professional footballers, they can get a massage at their dedicated sports science facility then lounge around the plunge pool today as part of recovery while our boys go to work then training.
This alignment arrangement really does show up the inequities at finals time between professional and semi- professional athletes and makes it very tough for the latter.
Totally agree with BC. But the WAFC aren’t going to tell the Eagles and Dockers to get on their bike and go elsewhere. They are the owners! And don’t want to spend any more then they have too. Fairness for the WAFL can go to hell.
On another note, I see Foley has been delisted by the Weags, Subi should be ensuring they get him back in the fold for next season, along with Greg Clark.
We missed out on Ainsworth when he was delisted which in the end wasn’t a big deal so I do hope the club pulls its finger out with Foley and maybe Clark and Menegola.
Clark’s not delisted yet, but rumours are, he’s in the crosshairs. If he is, cant see him going anywhere else unless WCER use their increased cap to make him an offer he cant refuse, even so he’s Subi down to his bootlaces.
