Just heard it on Curtin 100.1.
Very sad news.
Rest peacefully Dennis.
Rest in peace Dennis. I doubt there’ll ever be one better than you.
he was amazing to listen to across all sports. I would have loved to hear him and Richie commentating on cricket
One of the all time greats.
RIP Dennis
Simply the best…true WAFL icon.
Brilliant commentator and a pretty good player & coach as well.
Was so good at his media craft he commentated a number of different sports other than football like cricket, basketball, soccer, swimming, racing etc and was a great host of many footy/sports shows across TV & radio- Sportsnight, World Of Football, Sportstalk etc.
An iconic WA legend.
R.I.P Dennis
We’ve had George Grljusich , Frank Sparrow , Keith Slater John Rogers in the best days
Dennis started out around that time after coaching
Rest in Peace
I think we can all agree that Dennis was unique and the term GOAT was invented for him.No peer. But he was also passionate about the WAFL and especially his WP roots. He was always helping in some capacity behind the scenes and giving back to the game, industry and club he loved. There will never be another like him.Condolences to family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
Rest In Peace, Dennis.
You were an ornament to the sporting world.
Very Sad news, hard to believe actually, its been 10 years since he retired at 2016 AFL GF and he went on to do special comments at WAFL games for a few seasons.
A doyen of broadcasting and a WA icon, I remember him early days on ABC WANFL coverage as well as hosting Todays Football when George G gave it away, and his moved to Commercial.
Not a caller as good as him, he took the lead from Frank Sparrow and adopted and invented many of his own catch phrases.
Passionate about WAFL his 40 games and coaching time at the Cardies seems like yesterday.
Then there was his blinder Olympics swimming commentary …took interest to a new level.
Apparently a wonderful person to work with a gentleman to all he came across.
RIP DC
Just watched the Ch.7 midday news. Not a word about his passing from his ex-bosses.
But that is not surprising. Ch.7 is at least a day behind everybody else.
RIP Dennis
Shocked to hear seems he went way too soon. I remember him calling lawn bowls at either Olympic or Commonwealth Games obviously when he was still at the ABC. The guy was unbelievable at calling anything and did like that’s the sport he played and grew up in.
Called the cricket with the great Alan McGillivray if my memory serves me correctly. Just a beautiful caller of cricket. I loved his hosting and calling of the NBL in the 80’s/90’s with John Gardiner at 7 and Peter Ensel at 10.
I felt we were robbed in some ways of his wider talents when he left the ABC to 7 and mostly focussed on football. Right up there with the greats like Frank Sparrow, George Grilusich, Walley Foreman.
RIP Dennis
Don’t forget also his TVW 7 Perth Glory in the early days of the league from Perth Oval before it was reformatted, when 7 lost the AFL he moved to 9 10 and then back again.
Wally Foreman.
Dennis C always said he was inspired by the great Frank Sparrow…
Stacks on the Mill…
Two genius blokes
" Liberatore went into that last pack optimistically and came out misty optically.
One of Dennis’s many great lines
RIP
@mikeh that one is my favourite. Very clever.
I thought a very touching, insightful and heartfelt tribute from Adrian Barich on News Worthy.
Sad to hear about his passing this morning.
A man of many talents,Dennis to one’s younger ears was heard in the booth, calling Crickrtvl and Footy, sharply dressed as a man of the 70’s,climbing that darn staircase at the WACA.
Reckon he dud a Sports Segment with The Megastar Eoin Cameron in the 80’s.I only hope Son Mark didn’t get constant reminders of his Dear Dad’d flash of Inspiration, when naming him.
Also coached Maddington to a Hat-trick of Flags in the Mid 70’s!A Magnificent Achievement by Big Denn!
Rest in Peace,Dennis!
