Dan Does it again!

After giving a commitment to host and fund the Comm. Games Dans Victoria has pulled the plug, apparently his brilliant costings were around 5 Billion out , that is if you actually believe him, who actually does, bother the Olympic and Comm Games Committees have come out and said his costings are grossly inflated, we all know that, Dans budget is utterly cooked the biggest debt in the nation growing wildly with % rates.

Why book and event up and spruik it only to renege on it, say whatever you like about the actual event but to commit to it and they renege on it leaving athletes and communities that had planned for it in the lurch is embarrasing on the international stage. Its a third world stunt.

ZWe are currently spending a mint on the women’s world cup and WA labor pay for events to come here, if you commit to something stick to it.

getting toward time to shelve them entirely - olympics every 4th year is enough

Commonwealth Games are a relic of the past and should be consigned to history.

what is the old saying in the pubs about knocking shops? It certainly applies here. The vics can’t run football either; nor should they ask for federal monies to cover the rest of their bloody state debt in the future. The games are not a relic if he bidded for it in the first place. He is the worst propogandarist I have seen in Australian politics. Also, why does he think sport events make money?

That obviously appplies to the WAFL as well then.

Same thinking as the AFL chiefs on the state comps.

mate the world has been spared of seeing how bad Melbourne the place actually is

Yes, all this could get quite messy. What is going to happen to all the businesses that have contracts with the victorian state government? The business sector could end up in court cases with the state government which will add to the bad look. Apparently a feasibility study was done prior to the victorian bid and the high cost was well known, but they still went ahead.

Why not switch the Commonwealth games to the UK because the last ones were held there I think? All the infrastructure should still be there.

I just loved how the eastern states media immediately demanded that WA pick up the games as WA has all the money apparently. Typical ES bullshite, the only sensible decision Cooked has made so far was to not get involved. Imagine the clusterfuck it would have become if he was in charge, would end up like our hospital system.

He should hold a scaled down on in Melbourne, Apparently --the Guardian-- Birmingham was funded by London and the local council 75-25. Yes, Bazza, let us hope the political left never try to declare ‘the Ashes’ a relic, otherwise all bets are off, so to speak,

when we were growing up these games had meaning - a cleaner Bansai version of the big show
it’s become way expensive too much has to be built because no-one wants old stadiums anymore

I have to wonder how much COOKED is spending on bringing these Billionaire EPL clubs here and if they are even kaing any money out of it, sure the first lot years ago was all sell outs, but this recent lot has been pretty ordinary, 25,000 at West Ham v Glory ?? You need 30, 000 just to break even at Optus and then just 43,000 at West v Spurs!!!

Any how much is the Womens World Cup Costing? I would say a pretty huge quid, looking at the games in Perth only one game was sold out and that’s at Perth Oval, well under 20K.

I love my soccer as much as the anyone but doubt this is delivering.

The problem is that he is trying to hold four Commonwealth Games in four difference locations – meaning he has to pay four times for everything. Hold them in Melbourne or other wise he will be paying a lot of compensation down the track.

mate if they got those soccer figures , the WA Govt wouldn’t have lost all that much coin but it’s political football that one

don’t know about the world cup but there would be some serious sponsors involved there

Yep typical Andrews got warned by organizers about costings and locations, and told not to do certain things ignored it as he would - but 4 Billion out???

The blokes full of BS , Gold Coast cost 1.5 Billion and hosted an excellent games.

Used mainly existing renovated venues as did Birmingham, Perth could run it far better with our existing venues, and most likely make a quid from doing it. We are set up better than any other City, cut the events back a bit, just make sure iconic comm games events like Netball Bowls Hockey are up there. Athlete accomadation is an issue, gee were the the first place in the world to build a purpose built Athlete Village for CG, which turned into City Beach, WA was a lot more can do back then, speaks a lot for the crap pollies we have now.

We should make another bid, Calgary has already agreed to hold the games for a second time in 2030, The Canadians organised the first games back in 1930 at Hamilton, Ontario.

I doubt it mate, ACT canned the idea of hosting games when told each State or Territory had to stump up $1 Million just in FIFA Fees to host a game. No Sponsors jumping in there!

Feds paid the 5 Mill for the intial bid and then put in another 90 Mill since plus Millions from the States.

The Venues are all there ready to roll, best Stadium in the country, only thing would be athlete accommodation, but then we are probably the worlds best at building minesite villages in record time.

And again. Vicco’s will have to go out and buy a fireplace and Metters wood stove to keep warm in the winter and still be able to cook when there’s a blackout. Banning gas in new homes. Probably good news for established home owners with gas the value of their homes just went up but bad news for new home builders.

Soon the poofs and lezzo’s will be complaining about the pollution from wood fires and stoves.

Poofs & lezzos. Offensive stuff DD
