d Cards

Hi guys just wondering if anyone knows the actual ruling on red/ yellow cards in ammos now?
I know they changed it last year but not sure what the changed is.

I thought you are allowed to replace a red card straight away?

Was changed 2 seasons ago. Yes it’s a direct replacement now.

Correct Viper, immediate replacement for both Red and Yellow cards. Player receiving Red card must leave the playing arena and not return closer than 10m from the playing surface.

What happens if a club knows that you are allowed to replace a player but the umpire says you cant? Would u replace him anyway or wait the 15mins just to be safe?

challenge if the umpires dont knot the bylaws…You would hope it wasnt a panel ump but they are not necessarily any better than club umpires.

If it was a club umpire then thats bad of the club not ensuring the umpire knows the correct laws

b) A Red Card offence will require a field umpire to Order Off the playing surface the offending players or club officials for the remainder of the match.

Firstly read the documentation that is available to all from the WAAFL website, as a lot of opinions on here are incorrect, as you read above, there is no 10m exclusion zone stated in the by-laws. Print a copy of the by-laws, and have it with you at the club or bench.

If there’s a difference of opinion, look up the by-law, get your runner to tell your captain to tell the umpire that you’ve got the by-laws, you’re replacing the red carded player and he can read the by-laws at the next break in play. The umpire has the option to note down the score and time if he’s not happy with it.

The clubs also were issued red and yellow cards for their clubbies which have the rule written on plus given a copy of rule book so there should be no excuse for umpires not knowing unless clubs not passing on info.

Last year I had an issue with an umpire in the thirds who wouldn’t let us replace a person.

The siren went just after so I went out to the middle and had a chat to the umpire about it and explained the rule had been changed 2 years ago. I would as coach be putting 18 on the field and if he wished to complain to the league he could on Monday.

He actually said in the end ok fair enough I didn’t know it had changed.

Viper we tried this on the weekend in the game between Basso and Warnbro, one of players was red carded at the end of half time, we approached the umpire and he advised that we were NOT allowed to replace the player.

Having a few people who knew about the rule change we had our runner approach him and also our captain in the third quarter and we were still told we can not replace the player, now in the stages of this game it was 1 goal in it and we were 1 player down due to a stubborn umpire who would not change his mind.

Now there are no sour grapes here as we went on to win the game by a couple of points but in this case umpires should know of this major rule as it could hinder a team of the 4 points.

I think warnbro owe your club a phone call and apology and you guys need to get the league to follow it up. He can’t be allowed to umpire without knowing the rules and I’m sure warnbro would not want him doing that again.

I actually have the link to the bylaws saved on my phone after our incident last year.

The opposition captain also backed me up that he could be replaced which made it easier.

Due to our umpire being away this weekend I’m not actually to sure who’s umpire it was, to tell you the truth I believe it was an umpire we received from the association!! But in saying this it should be general knowledge of all umpires the outcome and punishment of the red and yellow card system doesn’t matter where they come from or which club they are from!!

Warnbro’s captain also didn’t know the as he was approached at start of the 3rd along with the umpire.one of the umps was definitely a panel ump tho so he should have known .
On another note the red card was handed out after the half time siren on the wing , yet the ump proceeded to take the free kick off basso (which was awarded for the incident that caused the mellee) then gave warnbro a free kick and 50m penalty. Is that normal well after the siren?

its piss poor that people still don’t know the red card rule … this is the third (i think) season that its been in place for.

Keep the by-laws handy at all times
