This world we live in just gets more pathetic every day. You can’t say a word that might upset some minority group. People will be rounded up and thrown prison soon for not agreeing with things like Black Lives Matter, climate change, LBGTQi… demands etc.
Yes black live3s matter.
And white lives matter too.
So sue me!!!
If I see images of two men or two women kissing or fondling in public etc, then I am offended. So where the fuck are my rights???
Not sure why the usual bozos are sticking up for his right to say something he apologised for.
Who is the hero and who is the villain here because Basil admitted he had said the wrong thing???
Bowing to the same fuck wit scum who think paedophilia is a sexual orientation

He’s a grown man with common sense (puts him one up on you!!). He said what he thought and there’s no doubt that he only apologised to appease the minority that think a Lord Mayor is not allowed his opinion.
He’s allowed his opinion, it was his decision to apologise.
He just worked out who pays his salary going forward and it isn’t 6pr
If he had any common sense he wouldn’t have said it in the first place as it’s not the expected views of a leader which is to be inclusive not exclusive
Comment of the day - I forgot I was the lord mayor.
Yes he is allowed an opinion or belief just as we all are, we are allowed our set of values which we can espouse to all and sundry but and it is a kardashion BUTT, the community values have changed for the good or bad that depends on your values etc.
The issue for the Beak is that his opinion or values is scrutinised by the whole community not just the bintang set or the rainbow flag set!
Ok, agree with that. His sin is allowing himself in his position, comment on sensitive subject like that.
It was always going to be difficult to separate his 2 public personas, a radio talkback host is someone who poses questions to listeners then comments on them based on his own opinions. A pollie can only survive these days by carefully controlling all their public utterings based on not “insulting” any of the self important easily offended professional special interest groups who have made an art form of being offended by everything and have convinced a scared media that they actually have the moral high ground.

Yeah no doubt. Had a chat with him have you darling…
Why are you offended by two men or two women showing affection to each other? I don’t believe they would be offended by you showing affection to your partner in a heterosexual relationship.
This issue is heterosexuals telling the LGBTQ community that they can’t have the same rights to be in a loving relationship and be open about there sexuality with their partner.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but we are not entitled to broadcast all of our opinions without possible repercussions. Australia has an implied freedom of speech but there are no protections to total freedom of speech in our constitution. Defamation, liable and hate speech etc are examples where our freedom of speech is limited or removed.
I know there’s Ozfooty posters with a better knowledge of the law that should chime in on this but Baz shouldn’t have said what he said publicly as a radio show host nor as Lord Mayor.

Ummm i don’t have a problem with 2 women showing each other a little bit of affection…Oops!
There should be nothing wrong or no one should be offended if someone says they feel uncomfortable when they see a gay/lesbian couple kissing in public, that is their right and those feelings of discomfort most likely stem from their upbringing, religeous beliefs or ethnic background. It should not cause any offence to anyone but it seems that a range of minority groups who also are who they natuarally are have the right to freely and without consequence, lambast anyone who says anything they feel doesn’t blindly support their lifestyle choices. I don’t give a rats what anyone does in their private lives as long as nobody is being mentally or physically hurt.

I enjoy some light bondage mate. Stay out of my bedroom, it’s none of your business!!
STD thats the scariest thing you’ve ever posted!!!
Not surprised that Basil has put his foot in it. He should remember that once upon a time people with his name in Australia were the object of prejudice. I reckon public figures should not be simply free to sprout prejudice (which is how I would respond to any racist comment); and they shouldn’t be free to sprout it when those people have long been subject, like gay people, to not just verbal but physical abuse. But I reckon Basil wouldn’t know the first thing about that.
As some have said, we have never had complete freedom of speech in the British Commonwealth, France and the US are the countries where it has been protected under the law. It will be increasingly under threat in France because of the affects of the post war immigration, witness the two recent murders, plus hebdo. The Muslims don’t get taught freedom of speech by the imams.
We are too Americanised
the black lives matter has to be stampped out in this country, it is totalitarian in intent. The other day I was watching a currie cup match, in a majority black country, no one indulgged in the ridiculous bending at the knee.
Basil has never come across to anyone as being a person of substance has he? I remember him running around as a footballer, a try hard extraordinaire.
He strikes me as the kind of guy who believes what his grandma used to say about him. So smart so handsome.
There is no substance though. Either he believed what he said in which case he should fight his corner or he didn’t in which case why did he say it?
My guess, he was just trying to get a laugh off Millsy and s pat on his head.
Like nana used to give him.
Spot on STT. And that’s hilarious by the way. Basil is like a jellyfish. Absolutely no back bone. He’s the kind of guy who loves loves authority and wouldn’t have the first clue about taking a genuine stand on anything that went against the grain. Like you said, he either believes it or he doesn’t.
