Claremont's Best Team

I notice in the paper that some Claremont people are picking their best team since their inception. It mentions the only criteria is that they have to had played 50 games for Claremont. Guy McKenna is named in the list of 50 names. Surely he did not play 50 league games for Claremont. Can someone confirm that yes or no.

51 games for Claremont

Debuted as early as 85 I think, played in the 87 premiership. Strange in hindsight that he wasn’t part of the eagles original squad.

pretty young when he started
McKENNA Guy Lindsay Claremont 11.05.1969
debut 06.07.1985 16 years 56 days

I cannot believe Phil Krakouer wasn’t selected for Claremont’s greatest ever team and Peter Thorne & Luke Blackwell were picked!!!   :S
I’m sorry but Thorne & Blackwell were both good players no doubt but they seriously couldn’t carry Phil Krakouer’s bag to the ground as a footballer!

I remember a fair while back being surprised when Phil wasn’t selected in an all time great aboriginal side and i’m even more perplexed at this latest miss. Especially considering Jim was a better player when phil was alongside, and vice versa.
I don’t understand Luke Blackwells selection. The way i read it, the criteria stated the only criteria was 50 games for Claremont and games outside the wafl, ie vfl or sanfl, were to be given equal consideration. And players had to be picked in a position. So how can Thorne and Blackwell who have only achieved success in a post 1987 wafl be considered in a best 22 ahead of Phil, Don Pyke, Wayne Blackwell, Tony Evans, Michael Mitchell… i could go on.
These sides are always difficult to pick and the criteria can be hard to get right and especially with wafl having two major eras, pre and post 1987.
Here is the team for anyone who’s interested. And i would have swapped Mckenna and Hunter around, Blueys main weapon was attacking off a back flank. I actually had Hunter and Mckenna on my flanks and Marshall ruck roving but anyway… either way its as good a back flank combination as any other all time great side from any club.. not to mention that ruck combination..

Mckenna Ken (moose)Caporn Dale Kickett

Marshall Sammy Clarke Hunter

Panizza Moloney Ben Allan

Chris Lewis Wayne Harvey Lorne Cooke

Malaxos Ralph Les Mclements

R: Moss, John Mcintosh, Jim Krackouer

Les Mumme, Kevin Clune, Peter Thorne, Luke Blackwell

Wouldn’t have had Dale Kickett in there, either, Tiger. But I wouldn’t argue with McKenna, Caporn, Marshall, Hunter, Moloney, Allan, Lewis, Harvey, Cooke, Malaxos, Ralph, McClements, Moss, McIntosh, J Krakouer, Mumme and Clune.
That leaves Kickett, Panizza, Thorne and Blackwell as dubious in my opinion.
Would probably have kept Panizza and replaced the other three with Mitchell, P Krakouer and Blackwell.
As always, it’s an interesting debate.
