With the Carlton CEO admitting they knew that Elijah Hollond was in trouble, surely they will be in big trouble from the AFL. If they, the AFL, found Port $100,000 for sending Allir back on the ground with concussion, surely Carlton will get the equivilant.
Port knowingly sent a player back out injured whereas Elijah quite possibly was able to hide whatever he was on or had drunk. I bet all clubs now will ensure every player is checked for anything before going on the ground.
They will cop a fine but don’t think quite as much as Port and not quite the same circumstances.
From what I have read, there was a red flag even before the game. But surely the medical staff would have been aware he was in some sort of trouble. There will be a lot of arse coverning coming from within I reckon.
It is at least as bad as the Port scenario.
There is video of him trying to have shots for goal before the game and missing the ball completely, and there is video of him during the game spinning in the goal square flicking the bird to the crowd and his team mates and the ball is probably 50 meters away.
I know Carlton is saying it was not drink or drugs but i wonder if he got tested after the game or if they were to frightened to do that due to his mental health. He didn’t look like he froze he looked like he was on another planet altogether
Totally agree. I really do think that the CFC are in deep sheeit.
If he was that far off the planet in the rooms before the game, somebody must have said something.
I have heard of white line fever, but this is crazy.
The club CEO said it wasn’t.
The alcohol thought is interesting. If he was souped up, would have to have been on Vodka. Don’t they say it is the only alcohol that you can’t smell.
Sadly old school footy folk, and probably a fair percentage of those coaching at the elite level, don’t have a good grasp on mental health, and its fragility. They are advised on talking a good game, but don’t think they really action that talk too well…..generational thing maybe, but it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest that Holland’s behaviour went unnoticed in the pregame prep last weekend.
Maybe Holland kept quiet beforehand, getting past potential detection in not being fit to play.
If he did get noticed, not sure how late you can swing a change,….maybe the 10 minute window in running on the field to Bouncedown(I STILL call it that).
But once it was CLEAR AS MUD he wasn’t right,he’s not right,he should have come off and stayed off!
It means you’re 1 player short, but then the responsibility for him during the game, becomes the Responsibility of the CEO,a Board Member,Club Doctor,Player Welfare Officer from there!
