C4 finals week 1

Well done to Cockburn Lakes who won the do or die clash with Noranda to book their spot in the finals.

Qualifying Final
Piara Waters vs Roleystone - Piara Waters Sporting Pavillion

What a great season from both these teams. Piara Waters didn’t win a game last year in C3 and have only lost one this year which was all the way back in round 1. Roleystone have got a ressies side together and come straight up from E1 last year and have been more than competitive and deserve their top 3 finish. Last time these 2 teams met Piara got up in a close one by 4 points back in round 2 although Roley had more scoring shots so should be an absolute cracker. Going by recent results and form I’m tipping Piara by 3 goals at home.

Elimination Final
Cockburn Lakes vs Rossmoyne - Anning Park

Both of these teams were tipped to make the top 5 by most people and have done exactly that. I think they will both be happy they have scraped in. lakes have had a pretty inconsistent season they can put some teams away below them with some big results but seem to struggle with teams above them. Rossy always seem to be there abouts but same as Lakes can’t seem to get over the line against the teams above so I don’t theink the winner of this game is much of a threat to the top 3 but on the other hand footy is a funny game. Last time they met Rossy got up by 12 points at home. I think Lakes will get up this time with the home advantage but only just by 2 points.

Thanks for getting things started HMac. As we get into the final series of c4 what a year it has been.
Well done to cobras for finish on top in both league and ressies and booking the first week off. Especially after everything the club has been though, it’s a real credit to everyone involved down there and sticking together. On to this weekends games!

Awesome job to Piara, their coach’s, president and committee for the massive turnaround. With not winning a game last year to having league, ressies, thirds all into the finals, and also there first year women’s side through to the grand final. Also just have to say from were Rolly have been in the past couple of years to finally get together two solid sides and now playing c4 finals is a massive achievement for the there club.
I’m tipping Piara Waters at home by 6 goals

Lakes snuck into the 5 last week with a much needed victory and I think they will definitely take that momentum into this week. Rossy have been consistent all year but I think lakes will get the better of them.
Lakes by 3 goals

Good luck everyone this weekend.

What a year it has been with finals here, we get into the business end of it! Congratulations to the cobras on top spot well deserved fought hard all year and haven’t looked out of place at all.

League
Piara vs Roleystone - last time they met it was tight the whole way to end resulting in a goal just before the siren I believe. This match will be much the same very contested and fast paced both can score well when ball in hand. Both teams have been winning recently so form is not a factor here. With Roley only having league make the finals that could help with personnel to pick for there best team could be a factor. Piara all teams made the finals huge effort on its own! Home ground advantage with reserves playing before i expect a huge turnout out at piara’s ground. Home team to get up here 4 goals

League
Lakes vs Rossmoyne - Noranda will be kicking them selves but a huge chance in their reserves tilt. Lakes recent form isn’t the best but there always in the match which means there half a chance. Rossmoyne there persistence have prevailed and made the finals in both league & reserves. These two teams are 1 a piece with each time the home team getting up.. I’m tipping who can use the ball skills well will win this match with a big crowd probably more Rossmoyne due to both teams playing will help out. Home side to scrap in 2 goals

Reserves
Lakes vs Piara @ Piara - both teams have 1 a piece much the same as the game above home team victors. I see a big game here but the form of Piara is too hard to go by here 5 goals

Noranda vs Rossmoyne - the only match between these two was a blow out with noranda winners. Credit to Rossmoyne for making reserves finals I feel they struggle with numbers still and lack of personnel hurts. Noranda’s league out so I see another blow out here with Noranda 15 goal win

First week done and dusted..
Lakes absolutely running amuck over Rossy who I think will be disappointed with there efforts, Lakes having double the scoring shots and were just too strong.

A bit of controversy down at Piara with two free kicks in the last minute of the game going Piara’s way as Rolly didn’t have players in the correct position before the the bounce. Resulting in a come from a 4 goal behind going into the last qtr victory to Piara to win by 5 points.

Lakes and Noranda winners in the ressies

KTB your not wrong there what a cracker first round!

Lakes put it out there… they are contenders with a big win and rossmoyne had no answers at all, They will be full of confidence going into this week.

Piara vs Roley what a game I was down to watch this match and the hype I thought it would have produced the goods. Neither team took a backwards step! The last quarter wasn’t what I expected at all with piara down by 4 goals needing 5 to win they went hard… I was as confused as anyone when a free kick was given but I looked it up today and the umps were in the right. But what confused me more was how did Roley allow it to happen twice in the matter of 5 mins.

Lakes have definitely put out a statement with their cruching win over Rossmoyne well done to them and should be a good game in elimination against Rolly next week.

I missed the 1st half of the Piara and Rolly game but what a game it was, definitely the best game I’ve watched this year. The score was 77 - 49 at 3 quarter time so a huge effort from Piara to come back from there. I too was surprised by the umpires calls but after further investigation the calls were actually correct and they seemed to miss one or 2 others throughout the last quarter that could have been paid with 2 rolly pl;ayers standing on the same wing. It seemed Rolly were their own worst enemy but they played some magnificent footy it definitely did’t feel like I was watching a C4 game well don e to both teams looking forward to the next few weeks.

I heard that there was a meeting called on Monday night for all Umpires regarding incorrect calls on the 666 rule from this game

Sounds like they weren’t right after all

Dogs of war how does it sound like they weren’t right because they got asked to please explain?

Beacause it was a general Meeting for all umpires. So they could be advised of the correct call for a 666 infringement.
A 666 infringement is a warning for first infringement and a free kick only for further infringements and not a 50m penalty. No 50m penalty unless time delay for player getting back in correct position.

If you need further clarification talk to WAAFL umpire

This is the 50m Penalty rule from the 6,6,6 rule explained by the AFL:

"Under the AFL’s new six-six-six rule, teams that seek to protect a lead by placing multiple extra players behind the ball to protect a lead late in the game will concede a 50m penalty in addition to a free kick.

The addition of the 50m penalty will be included as part of the rule to prevent teams from deliberately conceding the free but still positioning themselves - with extra players in defence - so that the opposition finds it harder to score.

Clubs will concede a 50m penalty on top of a free kick if they flood back at centre bounces.

The additional 50m penalty would be applied if teams were intentionally putting those extra players back - rather than just having one extra player misplaced in the defensive half in order to protect a lead.

One scenario raised at club level was that a team with a lead of eight points with a minute left could put three or four players behind the ball at a centre bounce.

While this tactic would give their opposition a free at the centre bounce, the theory is that it would make it harder for them to take a mark or win a ground ball and score; in effect, the idea would be to put the game out of their reach as time ran out.

But the AFL has clarified that intentionally putting extra players back would also bring a 50m penalty, meaning the opposition would be gifted a shot on goal from straight in front and well within scoring distance.

Under the six-six-six rule, teams must have six players in each 50m arc at centre bounces, four in the centre square (as usual) and two “wingmen’’ outside the square. The purpose of the rule is to open up the game and one consequence would be that teams won’t be able to defend leads by putting extras players behind the ball at centre bounces.”

There is a fair bit of grey area on the rule really, but repeat offences at that stage of the game with the opposition closing the margin I believe the umpires made the right calls
