Brandon Starcevich

So WC are asking for draft concessions and apparently have tabled a 6 year offer to a 26 year old with a history of concussion who has just come off the ground in a grand final with what looks like concussion from a fairly normal bump. Seriously you deserve nothing.

I understand and accept the west coast point but the real issue is Brandon and his health. A really good person who is a very good player.

Gotta agree with you on that. I’ve thought all along that chasing Starcevich would just be buying another part time player like Yeo. Definitely worried about their handing of their top drafts too.

Sharkie they haven’t learnt much. They just lost one of their all-time greats prematurely and Daniel Venables prior to that. No issue with maybe a 2 or 3 year deal but 6 with those issues is just plain stupid.

Yep!!

I know the lifespan of an elite footballer is limited and they have to make every financial post a winner while they can, but if I was Brandon Starcevich (and I’m not), with the Lions a massive chance of recording their second threepeat next year, I’d be staying firmly put at Brisbane.
The spinoffs of being a triple premiership player at a great club like Brisbane surely outweigh moving to the struggling Weagles.

I had to do a bit of googling because I thought Brandon would be the son of Craig and therefore thought he probably wasn’t born here. But Brandon is the nephew of Craig and was in fact born here and drafted from EP. Understand now the come home factor.

I can also understand the “come home factor”, rnb, but Starcevich has played 132 games for Brisbane (presumably, 150 games will make him a “Brions” life member) and has the chance for football immortality if the Lions win another flag next year, so I hope he opts to stay in Queensland.

I hear you Archie and makes sense but at 26 he’s probably thinking of maximizing his earning potential for the time he’s got left. Can’t blame him for that.

Fair point, rnb, an AFL player understandably has to maximise his earnings while he can because his career could be over in an instant.
I’d love to see Brandon Starcevich eventually finish up back in the blue and black but realise that’s very unlikely.

According to 7 News he’s had 4 concessions in the last 12 months. They also mentioned Brad Sheppard and Tyson Edwards as well as the two I already mentioned who’s careers have ended due to concussion.

Luke Edwards mate. Tyson’s son

I’ve never known anyone with repeat concussion problems, have them somehow magically disappear.

Starcevich would be mad to leave Brisbane on the cusp of a 3 peat…and WCE would be mad to want to pay a fella big money, who is a bee’s dick away, from a medically enforced retirement, due to his concussion history.

And 900g a year to play half a dozen games a year….FMD!!! I think Pyke’s head is still addled from that wipeout Dermie gave him all those years ago.

You are kidding me 900k? I really thought Pyke would turn this ship around not run it aground.

Surely they can not commit suicide again after the Kelly debacle. Then treat the AFL for fools, which they are, for the deal they handed out.
How many concussions has Starca had. Twice this year!! A couple ladt year!
Is Pyke really serious about running this club, or ruining it…more.

I’m still not convinced Pyke is the right man for the job, he never set the place on fire previously. I’d hope it’s not a case of the old boys club. Still, it is what it is and I’ll continue my support, even if we have to go 31 years without a flag.
