Bill Towers, 107 league games in the 50s & 60s. Won the Doug Buckingham medal in 1958.
Yes, sad to hear.
I remember as a kid, in the change rooms after the game.
If I remember correctly, he worked at one stage downstairs at Manton’s hardware store in EVP.
RIP Bill.
Mantons hardware, What a blast from the past. I remember as a kid going into mantons , I remember the big long counter not knowing that I would spend half my life selling hardware myself.
Used to sit out the front watching the TV in the window until Mum came and chased me home.
Vale Bill Towers..
Mantons were staunch Demons supporters and employed several players. Ross Millson was an employee at one stage.
I remember when TV began in 1959 and we did not yet have a set. Mantons had a tv set in their window every night which was very popular in the local area. People would bring chairs, rugs and coffee flasks to watch from outside.. Quite a social event.
Sadly the store lights were programmed to go off about 9pm which usually happend about halfway through Maverick or Bonanza or Adventures in Paradise..
hahahahahahaha
And surprise surprise, no one got mugged.
Was he related to Norm Towers that played for Perth in the early 80’s?
i remenber when we got a colour tv, first show we watched was the black and white minstel show.
