Big Bash XII

[quote=“gtrxuone post=224677 userid=2215”]Tim David has one year left on his Hurricanes contract. It looks like the Scorchers are going to move Heaven and Earth. To get the AU T20 player back to Wa.
If we finish top we will beat the 6 ers at Optus.Home prelim and final. Our tail is long and Tim would be perfect in the middle order.
Well done to the Nedlands local product for carrying his bat.Running that single last ball of the 19 over was a big mistake.Doesnt look like he has a power game but rotated the strike well.

How about the Brisbane Heat rolling Adelaide in Adelaide.. Defending an under par score.Adelaide with perhaps the best BBL batting line up ever assembled.Alex Carey,Travis Head,Matt Short,Chris Lynn..

I am going to be controversial here and say that the Scorchers already have a “Tim David” type player in Ashton Turner and I reckon Ashton is more effective that David. I think Tim is still a bit hit or miss and I think Turner is more consistent.

I agree Mike I would prefer Turner over David as a finisher in a tight game anyday.
One reason why the WA set up is working well on the field at the moment is we only stick with WA developed talent, excluding Hatzoglou who fulfilled a need we didnt have at the time in a tight bowling leg spinner.
In fact I wouldnt even bother getting out any Internationals unless they fulfill a need that the WA set up hasnt already got, Lyth & DuPlessis were a waste of time and money, should have just stuck with locals like Bancroft, Eskinazi, Connolly etc.
You look at most of the other “franchises” they have players from all other states who seem to be just chasing coin a bit like the washed up internationals they bring out here as well and dont seem to “buy into” the club, its just another short term contract to them before jaunting off on to the next T20 League “franchise”!

Could have been worse I guess BH. At least Geoff Lawson is not part of the commentary team!

I would have muted the TV if we had of had Haddin, Waugh, Lee & Geoff (I hate everything WA) Lawson in the comm box Mike!

The other thing to take into account when talking about big hitters and the Scorchers is that they’re missing Mitch Marsh and Cam Green who would otherwise be playing now if not injured. There’s 2 of the biggest hitters going around and if you throw Jhye Richardson into the attack as well, they’d be pretty much unbeatable.

You could almost have a complete home grown team. The middle order you could play around with and Turner and Agar as spinners.

Bancroft
Inglis
Marsh
Hardie
Green
Turner
Agar
Tye
Behrendorff
Richardson
Morris

[quote=“mikeh post=224673 userid=926”]Scorchers beaten by a better team last night. I was distracted by the Fox commentary team of Brendan Julien, Mark Waugh and Brad Haddin. I normally take no notice of biased commentators but these guys took the skill to new levels, especially Haddin who got to the stage of cursing when the Sixers missed a run out. Sounded like he was in the Sixers coaching box. Awful stuff.

I’m afraid humility , respect & graciousness are not associated with anything NSW - the legendary Benaud aside , modern NSW just has an abusive culture
Just have a look at their two successive Premiers , one who thought it was a good idea to wear a Nazi uniform and the other who was as currupt as they go
Haddin was one of the worst sledgers on-field we ever had as an Australian cricketer

Nice squad BC.Then adding all the Wa players at other BBL franchises.

BH it could be worse..Jim Maxwell could be commentating..He’s the king of hating West Australians.

Hey isnt the Esky a POM?

while we had some brain farts with the batters i think we lost the game in the last ball of our bowling innings - If that went for 1 we would have had a different result

He was born in South Africa and moved to WA when he was a toddler PH.
Did his schooling at Christ Church Grammar and later UWA.
He came through the Claremont-Nedlands Cricket Club system.
Has played in English County Cricket for Middlesex due to his English born mother.

I think he’s the current Middlesex skipper as well mate

There is a shiteload of them GTR-
Stoinis, Cartwright, Moody, Phillipe, Whiteman, David, Short, Coulter-Nile, Hinchliffe, Paris, S.Marsh, Rocchiccioli etc…

That’s almost another competitive full side BH.Given we have recently won the Shield,Marsh Cup and BBL.Its boom time for Wa cricket.

Mitch Marsh said the other day he is targeting a one day game for WA on Feb 26 as his comeback. WA are already assured of a final spot in that competition. Shaun Marsh may struggle to get back into the shield team, the way that they have been going.

Thanks BH, that’s made me more confused - he is classed as an international replacement even though he has played previously in the WA system.

Heard him speak last night on the TV, based on his accent I would say he spends a lot more time in the UK than Australia.

I noticed after the game finished last night all of the Claremont-Nedlands boys in both the Scorchers & Hurricanes had a photo together on the ground- Steve Eskinazi, Matt Kelly, Nick Hobson from Perth and Tim David & Joel Paris from Hobart and not forgetting PS bowling coach Tim McDonald and batting coach Wes Robinson who were also there.

Gee Hardie is looking like a quality player at every chance he gets to bat . A natural number 3 by the alooks.
He and Inglis have a certain way of creating partnerships.
A very good performance last night.

I reckon Hardie will play white ball cricket for Australia in the not too distant future. He is also a very good long form player as he demonstrated in the Sheffield Shield final last year. WA is blessed to have two classy all rounders in Hardie and Green.

I agree with Hardie In fact I reckon he could open in T20 cricket next year alongside Bancroft, which would allow M Marsh to slot in at 3 and Cam Green after test duties to bat 6 and bowl a bit. If need be, you could rotate them both through those roles.

Id like to see Cooper Connolly get some more game time next year.

Whats probably the biggest hint to all sides is WA and the pink NSW side don’t have international players - they are home grown talent - and they are the successful franchises.

I read earlier about chasing David next year - I would chase no one i would keep the money in the squad to keep it together.

PH there’s also talk that the Stars+Stoinis might end there arrangement. He has one year left on his contact and the Stars might pay him out.
Stoin will be looking for a new club. With a lot of BBL interest.

Some dopey Eastern States franchise will probably pick Stoinis up but hopefully Perth steer well clear of him.
Its no coincidence that most of the success of WA sides in all formats of late have not had the likes of Stoinis playing.
At the end of the day he cant even get a regular game for the perennial underachievers and cellar dwellers Melbourne “Stars” lol.
