Peel haven’t been at all bad this year. Sure they got flogged by West Perth last week, but they have been competitive in their other 3 games and they have only had one game at home so far. Looking through some of the names on their list, they should be better than 0-4 and unless our guys are switched on this sunday, we may be ambushed. An interesting sub plot with Cam Sheppard now the Peel coach and Motlop one of their key players, will be interesting to see if there is any niggle in the game.
From Swans point of view we have lost Cass and Neale, both significant but on the other hand welcome back Blight and Newman. Still looks a solid team on paper, capable of playing finals. However as we nearly discovered last week games are not won on paper. Well done to Charlie Cameron on getting picked in the under 18 WA team, that probably means that he will be away for chunks of the season like Cognilio a few years back. He is a real talent though.
Above all lets hope that Swans go into this game with a better intensity and mindset than in the last few weeks and get rid of these slow starts
No I can’t see any ambush this week. I still reckon Swan Districts to wn by about 20 points. Swans % of 92 is not too bad compared to 72% for their opposition this week.
Hate to say told you so but… Didn’t make it to the game today so will be interesting to get a report from somebody who was there. From the look of the stats we had more possessions and inside 50’s but Peel were more efficient.
To be honest I am not surprised that Peel beat us today. I saw very little in the last 3 home games that gave me the confidence that obviously a few other Swans fans had. There is a lethargy about the team so far this year which has to come back to attitude and mindset. There is a smell of 2011 about the guys and they are now looking right down the barrel of a 2-4 start to the season as I cannot see any way that they will come within 8 goals of West Perth on current form.
On a positive note good to see Ugle with another 4 goals and Jesse Manton with 20+ possessions and the ressies and colts had wins.
And the match was not broadcast on the radio either!
3.1 10.1 13.5 15.8 (98)
Swan Districts
2.2 6.6 9.6 12.12 (84)
Going by the final score, Swans had 24 shots at goal and their opposition had 1 less at 23. Yes, Swans didn’t use the ball as well as they could have. Despite having more disposals of the ball, they had less marks.
Ill eat my words..we were never in the hunt today and Peel wanted it more, were harder at the footy and used it better. The 3Qt tackle count of 59 Peel to our 26 sums it up, we persisted in handballing to players in worse positions and under pressure instead of getting the ball inside 50 as quick as possible, Harding highlighted this fact as it wasn’t a day for f##king around with it, but no we had too many outside players who did their own thing, and the number of times we had 2 and 3 players flying for grabs instead of playing % footy and having at least 1 crumber was frustrating!. Motlop carved us a new one and he seemed to run free at will and also be damaging in clearances. Too many of our players looking to do the speccy things and not enough grunt. Once the rain set in and the ball was greasy we had no hope and were lucky Peel didn’t finish us a lot earlier. This season will get away from us really quick if we cannot come up with the points v WP this week. Well done to Peel
Interesting to hear Harding say on the Swans footy show this week that he has no clue as to why Swans are starting games slowly. looks like it happened again today and it was catch up footy for the rest of the day. That indicates to me that there is an attitude issue within the team ATM.
For the 4th week in a row we were pretty abysmal.
Seems to me some of our players are just happy to “rack up the stats” with meaningless handballs, handballs, handballs instead of kicking it long & direct to our quite potent forward line, which made no sense at all in a game where it rained pretty much all of the day.
Maybe our selectors should also have a look at the weather forecasts for game day in the future as it made absolutely no sense whatsoever to play 3 ruckmen in the same team on a wet day!

Baffling decision!
I’d rather just go in with Lammie and Notte with Lance Daly up forward. Blakely and Cary won’t impact games at this stage and Notte is very good in the ruck.
I didn’t get the chance to head down there today but when I saw the named team, I was worried. Did we have a late withdrawal forcing the change? Blight? Did Miles get injured?
Blight hasnt played since we beat EF in round 1 & he has been a massive loss to the side that we just havent been able to cover. Miles is terribly out of form at the moment & might need a run in the Reserves to find some form.
Well we got to see the reserves get a good win!
That was as good as it got.
The rain showed up, there were a good number of swan supporters who showed up.
I saw some boys in black & white out there today but I’m not sure the team really showed today.
I swear this is the 4th game in a row where the team just did not show up ready to play.
They looked uninterested, unmotivated and at times I would say just lost on the field.
Peel often seem to outnumber and outwork us today.
Agreed!! Not so much a lack of heart but a lack of comittment! Our younger inexperienced boys rolled the dice but our leaders were ordinary today. ALL OF THEM!! If thats the best we can do then maybe we need to have a good long look at ourselves. Thursday will not be pleasant if the same team turns up.
Oops, my mistake.
But then again, it’s fine listening to a FM radio station for people residing within the metro area. Sometimes we’re forgotton about over here at rabbit flats because there’s more to WA than the city limits.
the selection summed up Harding - he has no idea.
lose 2 mid-fielders - Neale and Casserley and they dropped Daly who had done well and in came Newman and then 2 young rucks on a wet day..
Faulkner was the obvious selection for those conditions..
He would have had no option but to play Newman. Speaking of Newman his inability to grasp that it was a wet day and what he tried to do under those circumstances was almost as inexplicable as smost of the umpiring decisions during the day.
Garlett should also be told that he needs to play four quarters of football rather than the odd 5-10 minutes or so every other quarter.
Regarding Daly a very good performance by him in the ressies - he showed the willingness for second efforts which at times had been absent previously.
Lammie obviously needs help and both Blakeley and Cary show a great deal of promise.
Whilst we have obviously been impacted by retirements prior to this season and injuries to some key players this season overall our work rate has been nowhere near the level required to win. We are still reasonably placed if we do improve greatly on some players’ individual work rates and overall team work rate to play in the finals.
The game on Thursday may well be the ‘line in the sand’ game. We need a strong commitment by our players on the ground and by our supporters off the ground.
Newman had to come in but blind freddy knew that Swans didnt need both Cary and Blakely on a wet day to support Lammie and Notte..
one more small player could have been the difference on a wet day in a close game, especially Faulkner who is a good in and under player..
Harding will be very thankful the former president gave him a 2 year contract before the last election, he has no idea..
