Best long drop kick!!!

I know that it is a thing of the long gone past, the drop kick, but who was the best and longest drop kick you have seen in your football watching days.
I know some will say there are a few here, and maybe myself included, but that’s not the sort I meant. :stuck_out_tongue:
Some that come to mind.Peter Dougan and Kevin Miller rom Souths.
But I think the longest drop kick I saw was by an East Fremantle player on the Boulder oval during a visit there.I am not sure of his first name but his surname was or is Stephenson. He kicked out and landed the ball over the centre line.He was their full back at the time.
Brian Sarre was another who was a long kick.
Am away for a few days going to sun myself in Bali.
Have fun and be nice.

Nobody but nobody would get close to Brian Sarre, he used to hit the wingman on the chest on a regular basis, and landed it in the centre of the ground on nearly every kick

Yes Po-co Brian Sarre was a great kick and may well claim the title but their were others as well.

e.g. The goal kicked by John Todd from behind the centre, kicking to the city end of Lathlain in a scratch match circa 1962 or 1963.

John Grieve from Claremont was a full back who could reach the centre with his kicks.

Graham Ramshaw and of course John Quartermaine from Perth were other full backs capable of doing the same thing.

All you needed was the ruckman in the centre of the ground to tap it over the back to a rover and GOOOOOAAAAALLLL.

Ray Sorrell was another raking left footer of note.

And of course after having seen about 200 odd of Barry Cables 225 games for Perth who would forget his long accurate passes to team mates up the ground.

Yes PoCo there were some great drop kicks around and Brian Sarre was one of the best. Best form of defence in my humble opinion. Got the ball as far away from the back line as you could in one foul swoop.

I am sure someone else can come up with some names.

A couple of others, Brian(Bulla) MacGregor(EP) and the great JKW also EP.

Some mention of john todd and others kicking the odd long one,but as we were asked for the best long dropkick, I would think that ment regually dropkicking long thats why I wouldnt mention people like barry cable very good 60/70 yard kicker but not anywhere near the distance or regularity of Sarre, I think ramshaw would be the closest that I saw, but not the regular 80/90 yard kicks of Sarre.

Best drop kick- I nominate LeVictim or whatever handle it is going by this week!!

Brian Sarre, John Quartermaine(Perth), Ron Triplett(Suby), the late Graeme Reilly(South), Ray Schofield(WP), Keith London(WP),Wattsy(EP), Kevin Miller(SF), and a bloke from SA, Bob Shearman.

Sydney Jackson at Lotons against swans 2 steps centre circle head high through the goals at the bulwer st end.

Sarre was the best on a consistent basis, was just a shame he did not get the team rewards he deserved.

Paul Vinar.

Agree with Paul Vinar. He was a freak. .
Polly could dob a good droppy as well.

Pretty hard to pick but I spent many saturday arvo’s at Subi oval watching Sarre kickout from goals and regularly reaching the old centre circle. Seeing that subi oval is, I think 165m long, that means he was dobbing them 80+m a dozen times a game.

In terms of longest it’s hard to go past John Duckworth, even the crowd roared every time he kicked it.

Can remember John Quartermaine and Cabes being pretty damn good at the droppy. Unfortunately never saw Sarre but he sounds awesome! Had a junior coach who insisted we all do circle work using the drop kick in the 70’s even tho it was basically disappearing from the game at that time.

Best drop kick- I nominate LeVictim or whatever handle it is going by this week!!

Alan Prosser EF HBF either foot was worth watching, and David Hollands.

Barry Cable was superbly balanced when he let one go.

Demon forever, baseline , TFAF (1977) smoker and paul, who do you think is the best drop kicks to come out of Lathlain. I would say Cable for sure. Saturday afternoon down at Lathlain, the smell of the old mill near the train tracks and Cable letting them go from the middle. :woohoo: : :woohoo:

Barry Cable was a pure joy to watch. Brilliant skills.
EJ Whitten had a copybook kicking style.

BTB the side of the sixties were the best brop kicking team that have come out the PFC IMHO.

Their were a host of skillful players.

Drop kicks (best - not the longest), Barry Cable, Greg Brehaut, Pat Dalton, Graham Jenzen, Graham Ramshaw, Bob Shields, Ross Milson, Billy Vaughan.

They all had great drop kicks and were very skillful.

I’m sure someone will want to debate that.

Steve Hargraves. Got sick of standing on his mark and getting the roof of my mouth sunburnt watching the ball go over my head!
